Tango Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Just ordered one from the US as this brand seemed to get good reviews on the Triumph RAT forum. But has anyone else used them and have any opinions on them? Quote
Stu Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I have one fitted and you do get a bit of sediment on them! Not sure who makes mine though Quote
mealexme Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 ... thought they were all magnetic? No?Are car one's magnetic? If not, why the hell did I think they were? lol Quote
Sigil Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I wonder if these would make any difference, it might catch small amounts of metal shavings but surly the oil filter would catch them anyway if you didn't have one? Quote
Stu Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Like I said above I do get a bit of sediment on mine which shows the filter doesn't get it all Quote
cruz Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 They are, most things on bikes not new, in 1972 the 850 Guzzi had them as standard, having said that the oil filter was an internal mesh filter. Quote
Sigil Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Like I said above I do get a bit of sediment on mine which shows the filter doesn't get it allIt dose seem like another defence and i might consider getting one if i change my plug.having sediment dose show that the product is working but i was trying to say is if you dident have the plug wouldn't the sediment just get filtered out, the plug might of got some of the sediment before it had the chance to go through the filter. I hope that makes sense as im not sure its clear enough I guess it is at least allowing your filter to be kept a bit more clear and a sign of how the engin is waring. Quote
Stu Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 It's that fine that the filter could let it through its like a paste Quote
Sigil Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 It's that fine that the filter could let it through its like a pasteAh thats interesting, might have to get one next oil change then (if i hace cash about...) Quote
Stu Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I'm doing an oil change soon on mine if mine has any on I will take a pic Quote
Sigil Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Sounds good stu will be interesting to see Quote
Roadtorque Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Since most of the engine is alloy, why bother with magnetic drain plugs Quote
Stu Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Did an oil change today so took a pic Pretty worrying really!! Quote
Roadtorque Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Not really, would never have got through filter Quote
Stu Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Not really, would never have got through filter I know that but the fact that all that has come out the engine in only 3k Quote
Sigil Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Not really, would never have got through filter I know that but the fact that all that has come out the engine in only 3k Yeah it is a bit worrying but im sure its quite normal. Shows why oil changes are important tho Quote
Colin the Bear Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I thought this was a standard. Everything I've had has had one. Why not magnetise your own. Next time you scrap a microwave, pull out the magnetron and remove the magnets. Very strong. I've been using a pair to magnetise screwdrivers etc for years, fished my keys out of a drain with them too Quote
Stu Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 nope not all my zxr400 and 2 gsxr600's never had them my mates R6 doesnt have one either Quote

Stu Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Definitely worth the investment You can also get magnetic oil filters too Quote
