Boblog12 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Hi all! I've moved to ashford and I'm in need of some help. I really need to find a good reliable mechanic to help me out and was wondering if anyone knows anyone around here who could help. Ideally I need to find someone who runs a bike garage and would be able to take my bike and have a play with it to figure out the problem...I have a Suzuki sv650 s k4 2004 model. It's ran fine for past three years, had full services etc. and no major problems. Now though, (probably because its sunny and good riding weather) it's decided to start playing up. I switch her on and she runs fine for up to about 20 mins, then the revs seem to mess around, particularly at slower speeds - 30mph or less. Keeping the throttle steady, the revs might drop or pick up for no reason. Likewise, when speeding up or rolling off the throttle, she sticks at the revs she was at for a bit before reacting. Once all this starts, she then sounds "clunky" if that makes sense. The engine noise seems lower in tone, like its struggling to keep going. Then, when slowing down at traffic lights or junctions with the clutch pulled in the revs obviously drop, but then she cuts out. When you start her again, you have to keep the revs high or else it just cuts out again. Makes riding in a town a. Difficult and b. embarrassing!! If anyone could point me in the right direction, either by diagnosing my problem (not mine, I mean the bike- I know my problem, I waffle when trying to get to the point...see?) OR by pointing me in the direction of someone who can help without ripping me off for hours spent on labour it would be much appreciated.CHEERS!Bob Quote
Stu Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 sounds like the throttle position sensor could be buggered sorry cant help with a mechanic though Quote

Just took it to the gym and back there, it farted about the whole way there, had to restart it like 3 times, then on the way back it ran smooth as anythin! :s apologies for my ignorance, where's northiam? klingelton Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 sounds like it could be fuelling. if it's injected, could one of the sensors be gammed up? Quote
Boblog12 Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 Not sure, how would I check that and is it easy enough to fix? Quote
megawatt Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 If you want help or advice, PM yer number for a chat? Quote
Stu Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I'd it was a sensor it would bring the Fi up on the dash and you would be able to get the code if you have no Fi on the dash it's not a sensor If it is the throttle position sensor on its way out then it won't bring anything up till it dies completely You can test a throttle position sensor but you need a analogue multimeter Quote
Boblog12 Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 Cool, thank you for the advice! I might be pushin my luck but would anyone be able to describe how to check it with a multimeter or know of any blogs etc online describing it? I can't find anythin in the Haynes manual.... Quote
acting_strange Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 You could also ask the question or look for an answer here..http://forums.sv650.org/ Quote
Stu Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Yes but not at the min I am on my phone Its easy to check if you have the gear First thing I would do is put it in to dealer mode and it will show any error codes Quote
Boblog12 Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 Just took it out for a spin on the a28 towards Canterbury.. Same problem, worked fine for a while, then started spluttering around. I stopped, switched it off and tried starting it again. Started fine, runnin in neutral so I slowly twisted the throttle. Revs picked up consistently then at a certain point dropped out and the engine stalled... Could that indicate a problem with the fuel position sensor?Came back with it runnin a bit ragged, and parked up and got the little bit of wire and put it in dealer mode with the error codes on the screen. Started it up, got it to the point where it cuts out and stalls, but no error code appears. It stays at c00 - indicating no problems. I tried a few variations of starting it in gear and in neutral, letting it cut out etc but no error code... Thoughts anyone?! Quote
Boblog12 Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 Thank you megawatt for all the advice on the phone! Quote
