Guest Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I'm looking at buying a new phone when my current one packs in, and I'd like to mount my phone on my bike and also have it completely waterproof i.e. against heavy rain for a long while! I'm looking at a samsung galaxy s4 at the moment but want to make sure I can get a mound with complete waterproof-ness Anybody got any knowledge? Thanks Quote
Joeman Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Google nexus5 is the better phone IMO.And plenty of waterproof cases for it. Quote
Guest Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Thanks joeman! I'd either do that or get a cheap GPS for my bike, but they're all so expensive (£100+).... If there are any under £100 then I'd definitely buy one (so long as they're waterproof) Quote

Guest Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Wow that's actually really good haha! Much appreciated, will look for mount and power supply now Quote
Zipster Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I have an ultimate addons case and charger for my iPhone - works a treat and keeps phone safe and dry as well as charged up. Thoroughly recommended. Quote
numptyspence Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Don't know if this helps but there was a write up of doing this with a tablet here. Including different gps software. http://www.webbikeworld.com/gps/nexus-7 ... -a-gps.htm Quote

Just be careful using other map systems as they are constantly downloading data to update there maps using a hell of a lot of your data supply. Using the phone in flight mode the Co pilot still works along with all the system loaded into the phone. Quote
Guest Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Thanks guys! And will do chris, i'll just have to "wait" until my current phone breaks..... Quote
Karimura Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I think CaT or some other concstruction sort of company brought out smart phone waterproof ones, bit more tough, don't know if they are any good with apps or software ect but can find out. Quote
OhJay Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I second Chris' suggestion, those cases look superb and was on the list for my last phone but I think water might have killed it so I've now got a lifeproof case for my iPhone. Case is brilliant, waterproof, good protection but the bike mount they offer is just a clip which would make me very nervous:http://store.imore.com/images/product_images/accessories/large/11486.jpgIt only has to rattle free at motorway speeds once.........Charging on it you need the original charger, the hole for the charger plug is quite... "fitted" and any third party chargers with bigger plugs just don't fit.But I use mine as my satnav. Currently it lives in my pocket but charge is an issue so getting a tankbag with map pocket and going to run a cigarette socket up from the battery Quote
Throttled Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I use a RAM mounting systemhttp://www.ram-mount.co.uk/stainless-st ... -1004.htmlThere are longer arms and different fixings depending on the case. Quote
Adam Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I've got an iphone 4 so I bought one of these http://bit.ly/17B84tf to be honest it's really cheaply made and I wouldn't recommend buying one, I put a cable tie around it because I don't trust it! I also bought one of these http://bit.ly/ZrYqYH this on the other hand is a brilliant piece of kit comes with an inline fuse and you just fit it directly to the battery, now unless you leave your phone on your bike this isn't a problem as you'd take the phone off charge when you leave the bike. It also comes with different options for the socket itself so it can be fitted in various ways.I forgot to mention I use a free app called navfree which hasn't let me down yet! Quote
Chrissb6 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Well folks would you believe it!! On removing my phone from its case lase night the cover clip broke JOY! I contacted Ultimate addons this morning along with a pic of the broken clip. There response was an replacement case has been dispatched today so for customer services they also get a 5 stars from me as well. By the way, l have had the case for just over a year so first thought was l was stuffed, just go's to show. Quote
