Ricky Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I bought an engine recently for my TZR which ended up not fitting, with no engine numbers and there's engines in worse condition on ebay that are four times the price I'm selling mine for and no one wants to risk it.I got mine cheap and quick which is why I bought it, now it's proving to be a hard sell. I-AM-THOR Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Had an oil leak and took it to jordons and all was fine, 7 days later it was overheating like mad. He advised me that best course of action was a new engine to save money. Rode it around for a fair few months so I think engine will be really damaged now. I think cylinder is damaged but honestly Im clueless, its just what I read on gixer forums. Gonna test it when the new battery arrives, bike still works just overheats and leaks a bit of oil. Quote

Sounds like someone who knows what they are on about needs to look at it. Might need a head gasket or something, but I would keep it original and do the work, probably less hassle in the long run. Lumor_uk Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 hot spots are caused by oil circulation problems or just one reason ? maybe a rubber seal has gone inside somewhere. Going by experience mechanics will avoid replacing seals but in the engine they must be replaced each time they are disturbed. Quote
Chrissb6 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 as above no numbers no sale errr why do you need a new motor Unless the crankcase is cracked broken then a fix is in order. Engines with serial numbers missing means your going to be handling stolen goods make no mistake. Quote

Engines with serial numbers missing means your going to be handling stolen goods make no mistake. it may be genuine if the add says its stolen recovered, or this may be someone selling stolen goods, either way not having an engine with the proper numbers can cause a massive headache down the line as there is no way to trace it, meaning selling will become a problem. Also, I believe the V5 has the engine number in it, so that would have to be changed. Try ringing the DVLA and telling them there is no number on the new engine, I don't think that phone call would end very well. In fact with the way the world is, there is probably some company policy saying that they need to inform the police about any "suspiciously unlawful activity" like that. (This is just a guess though - feel free to prove me wrong)Which ever way I look at it, I can't see it ending terribly well. Quote
