vauxfan Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 As some of you may know I have had my cbr 600 f sport for a couple of months now. Last week I had an issue where the meta 357t alarm wouldn't disarm. after 5 minutes it was ok. I put it down to the key fob and used the other one instead. all was fine until yesterday when it beeped 3x on arming. when I went to disarm it wouldn't, (with either key) I rang the garage up I bought it from and they took it away to look at. I got call yesterday to say the alarm was goosed and needed to be removed. this is not a warrantied item so they are not replacing it. so looks like I am going to end up with a bike with no alarm now Quote
Joeman Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Was the alarm brand new when you bought the bike?Regardless of warranty if you bought it from a garage it needs to be "for for purpose" and only lasting 2months is certainly not fit for purpose.Read up on the "Sales of goods act" and go back to them informed of your rights... Tango Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Ahhh....yes......Warranty......soft, strong and thouroughly absorbent..... Did you get a handbook for the alarm? The 3 beeps probably mean something, which may be described in the handbook.....along with any remedy..... If you declared the alarm to your insurer you may be duty bound to either replace it, or let them know it's been removed.....especially if you got a discount on the premiums for having an alarm fitted.... Stu Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 its a common thing with meta alarms you will be best off without it IMO as for warranty it will cover the bike and not accesories you bought a bike not an alarm it was just an added extra when you got the bike Quote
Guest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 you only had the bike 2 months. or the alarm 2 months?which.fwiw if you bought the bike with the alarm already fitted then theres a fairly strong likelihood the alarm was fitted when the bike was brand new. 12 years ago?my 2004 GT had the exact same alarm fitted.. brand new when the bike was originally bought. so it had been in place for 8yrs. I had it taken out the day after I got it home. Quote
vauxfan Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 The garage have taken the alarm off, or should I say disconnected. I still have the flashing led and system in place but its now not wired to my ignition. apparently the main unit isn't responding to the fobs. knackered I think they said. Quote
Richtea Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I'm almost sure I had the same alarm on a previous bike with the same problems, iirc I took the alarm apart and inside is a watch battery about the size of a 10p piece I replaced the battery and end of probs. The battery is there for the alarm to sound in the event of the bikes battery being removed so I'm told.Hope this helps. Six30 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Take it off your bike and kill it with fire..... Quote

Yeah same problem it was more luck than skill. I was going to remove the whole system but curiosity got the better of me an I pulled it apart, changed battery and gave it a last go,bingo all was well. Not sure but possibly the flat battery confuses the alarm pretty much like when you have a duff battery on the bike it gives weird symptoms. It may be worth a try you just need a small torx bit as the screws are anti tamper, also you can get a strip of battery's for a quid at poundland. Tango Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Got a Meta alarm on my bike.....still working ok.....and considerably less annoying than the Datatool fitted to Bonniebird's Speed4..... Quote
