Glorian Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Riding home the other morning on the 5 mile trek from my girlfriends. It was raining light to medium, i got about 5 minutes from my house and the power in my bike halved.. I was twisting the throttle it was fine but once i let the clutch out it waddled along i have yet to test it again today as i went to work in the car but it's not much use having this bike if a little bit of water knocks it out, I will have an inspection for any exposed cables where water may be getting in but otherwise i am not sure what else to check. Quote
mealexme Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 but otherwise i am not sure what else to check.Check the simple things.Check for a punctureCheck you have fuelI would imagine that water in the electrics would be a sort of all or nothing. I mean, if something shorts, it should trip a fuse and just refuse to work rather than work at half its powerIt may be worth checking the spark plugs too. Also check the HT cable is snug enough that it won't let water in Quote
Glorian Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Tyres are fine, checked them the other morning, and filled up less then 30 miles ago. Definately a engine issue could hear it struggling.WIll check the spark plugs, need to ask though.. HT cable? Quote
Invisible_Man Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Hi,HT lead or High Tension Lead runs from the coil to the spark plug cap. Have a look and make sure everythings tight. Also pull the spark plug caps and give them a squirt of WD40 to expel any water in there. Cheers,Shaun. Quote
Glorian Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Nice advice chaps, Will have a gander at it tomorrow evening when i finally get some free time. Quote
Glorian Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Right, still having issues, so going to replace all 4 spark plugs and the air filter see if that helps.Spark plugs is it worth the extra for iridium ones? Or just stick with normal. What sort of pirce should i be expecting, wemoto is £7 for normal £12.50 for iridium. Same again for the air filter, regular or performance? Go from £12 to £45.. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 air filter i would go for K&N replacement more expensive to buy but gives better performance and is washable to reuse so cheaper in the long run no idea on the plugs i only ever put standard ones in Quote
Glorian Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Is there a reason i can't wash a standard one? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 made from paper type material and it will block all the airways up and melt it into itself Quote
Glorian Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Really? That could be why mine is constantly sounding like it struggles for air and cuts out after i get it wet... Time to invest in a proper one then! Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 K&N will last the life of the bike just wash it out with the correct cleaning fluid and re oil with correct oil it all comes as part of the filter kit or at least it should do Quote

Think i'll just stick to standard spark plugs though. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 i would as i dont think you actually see a lot of benefit of iridium ones unless you are doing lots of high speed high revving riding/track days so save the money on cost of the plugs to cover extra cost of air filter Quote
Glorian Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Commuting down A12 day in day out really.. Air filter ordered at £45 >.> Gonna take mine out and look at it later, if it's bad will post some pics Quote

Iridium plugs last longer (apparently) so work out cheaper in the long run, just like the K&N.Tom - I picked up a set if iridiums the other week from Halfords - they worked out £7.99 each with a trade cards (£9.99 without). Blimey thats pretty cheap tbh. Will have to have a gander at that. Forget about my trade card to often..I've read you need certain tool to remove spark plugs? Is that just a load of crud? I was thinking i could go in with a socket wrench and an extender. Quote
Stu Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 You need a sparkplug socket They are deep and have a bit of rubber in the grip the plug to remove it The rubber hardly works on most sockets! Quote
