mattycoops43 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Hi guys and gals.Been given the job of fitting a zetec silver top from a 96 mondeo into a friends westfield. We have a pair of twin webber to use but would really like to use the ford injection etc for reliability. Does anyone know the ins and outs of the ford system, it is fairly self contained, but a lot of the wiring goes into the main car loom and we're not sure how much of it we can use.Anyone know where to get a good diagram showing what bits to use and what to cut out?ThanksMatt Quote
Stu Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 would something like this make life simple?http://parts-shop.westfield-sportscars. ... uct_id=428 Quote
Steve D Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Try signing up to http://www.turbosport.co.uk or just have a look around on there. There's plenty on that site that have fitted that engine to older classic Fords. I'm sure there's plenty of info on there that will help you with wiring and plumbing for that engine but I think most are using the later blacktop Ford twin cam engines nowadays.Hers a quick link to give you an idea. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=85075 Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I'm a Ford trained technician, I know a bit about them.Just F.Y.I. the standard ECU & Injection really restrict the power output, these engines run rather lean on standard mapping. Decent gains are to be had by ditching the ECU for a custom unit like a megasquirt, even more with a set of GSXR throttle bodies.Other issues will be the P.A.T.S. immobiliser system integrated in the ECU, it will cut power to the fuel pump and the starter relay.Good info here: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthr ... tid=179921 Quote
mattycoops43 Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Thanks guys. Stu, that is handy but doesn't give any info about what it is or what it's for. Which ecu etc.We have decided to go webers as we have a pair of dcoe40's from the crossflow, and we'll run through an aftermarket system like nodiz or omex. Seems the simplest and most reliably figured out way? Gradually putting the required parts together now. The sump is a pain in the butt, some of the companys that do shortened ones have stopped due to lack of donor sumps to convert. Think a sierra 1.8cvh is the way to go. looks like it bolts straight on. Quote
Matt Strange Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Seems sensible to me, it will get rid of the Ford immobiliser faff for starters. You'll also have the option of tweaking the ECU software to support other engine mods later on, possibly even a supercharger or turbo?.Have fun, it sounds an interesting project RE: sump, I think other sumps may fit, perhaps from an mk5 escort RS2000, Escort Cosworth or the Scorpio?.
