KrisValentine Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Sigh...some of you might remember me posting about taking my bike to the garage to get my headlights fixed...well they fixed that, but last week the cooling fan died so I took it in to get it fixed, one week later I get it back..cooling fan works, yet bike still over heating, and now the headlights are blown!I asked the guy how did the job go, his answer was a shrug and "dunno what he did to it mate, I asked if it was a ball ache, and he said an it took 5mins" - so why they had it a week? I noticed the bulbs had gone and also the temp of the bike before leaving but it was pissing it down and I don't want them touching this bike again, even if it is free!So I had a look at the coolant res, all topped up, I learnt there's a radiator coolant cap under the faring, opened it and tried to top it up - full but black liquid? There's me trying to put this special coolant in (pink).Any ideas? Quote
KrisValentine Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Oh and the guy spent 20mins on the phone before helping be because he was trying to close a sale, was quite annoyed, had to ring them like 3 times too. Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Any ideas?Yeah, drain and flush the coolant. Run it up and flush it again. And again until black crap stops coming out then fill with a quality coolant. Also don't use that garage again! Edit: Whereabouts on Neptune are you? Someone local might be able to make a recommendation for a decent garage. Quote

Ah great, I was worried I needed a different chemical in the radiator or something lolI'm in Scunthorpe, I don't like to advertise my bikes location on profile as to protect against opportunits:)I'll get my flush on tomorrow, do I just disconnect the hose on the side? Tankbag Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Edit: Whereabouts on Neptune are you? Someone local might be able to make a recommendation for a decent garage. Glad you resisted any cheap references to Uranus etc Kris, do you want to take this further with the garage ?This info might help.http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/ ... ge-serviceIf your garage belongs to Motor Codes, it will have signed up to the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair. This means the garage has committed to:• Honest and fair services• Open and transparent pricing• Completing work as agreed• Invoices that match quoted prices• Competent and conscientious staff• A straightforward, swift complaints procedureYou can make sure your garage is a member by checking the Motor Codes website or looking out for a logo when you visit. If you feel these commitments have been breached, call the free Consumer Advice Line on 0800 692 0825, or submit your complaint online.Motor Codes will asses your complaint, and provide advice and assistance. If your vehicle is still with the garage, Motor Codes will contact the garage directly to try and achieve a swift resolution. The Code provides a free Conciliation Service and low cost independent arbitration.4 Go to the small claims court If your garage is not a member of Motor Codes, you're free to seek redress through the courts. However, the Civil Procedure Pre-Action Protocol does recommend that all other ways of resolving a dispute are explored before resorting to court action. Remember, if you do take your case through an arbitration scheme, such as the one provided by Motor Codes, you can't go to court later if you're unhappy with the result. If the garage repair or service cost more than £100 and you paid by credit card, you could claim against your card provider using Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.If your card provider won't uphold your claim you can refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). KrisValentine Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Nipping out for some radiator flush now. I just undo the hose and drain into a bucket right? Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Pretty much - you'll probably have a drain bolt on/near the water pump too. Quote
Stu Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 drain bolt near the water pump then fill with fresh water ...... not tap water go to halfords and get battery top up water they are about 3 quid for 5 litres flush this through a few times and use this to mix your coolant too drain the fluid and put the drain plug back in fill with water run the bike up to temp allow to cool or until your confident you wont burn yourself and drain again repeat until you have clear water then fill with coolant with a 50/50 mix Quote
Tango Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 If it's the same as my S3.....remove the lower hose from the water pump end.....there's also a cylinder block drain screw on the front left of the engine, just below the exhaust manifold. On mine there's a bleed screw on the top right of the radiator, which needs to be removed when refilling to stop an airlock forming in the radiator. Ideally, the copper washers on the cylinder drain and radiator bleed screws should be replaced before refilling. Quote
KrisValentine Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 Cheers all, by combining all your input I got through it It had definitely never been drained before, that bleed screw on the radiator was factory perfect and on even the paint was broken. All ran through clear, and now got some lovely OAT coolant running through it, staying cooler for longer now cheers again all! Wonder why my old bike never gave me coolant problems. Quote
