Following from the thread about sweaty gloves, having ridding a bit in the damp of the last week. It seems I have developed a smelly helmet...

I think the problem is its not getting chance to fully dry between rides, it fits so much better than my other helmet I am reluctant to use the other one. Plus I do not want to prat around moving Bluetooth around...

So how do you store/ maintain a helmet to stop it getting wet and smelly...

As important.... How do you dry the foam overnight having just taken it apart washed it (gently in fresh water) before tomorrows outing

Gloves it seems I have acquired a fetish  for having 5 pairs (do not tell the misses  ), I can switch between them...

Boots its newspaper inside if they decide to leak (some days my feet stay dry some days they dont :?: ...

My gear does keep me dry but it gets hung to dry to try and keep it dry inside and out...

All tips appreciated I am slowly starting to smell must with all this damp LOL

I wear a thin balaclava under the helmet. Which tend to prevent the helmet lining becoming wiffy. Between rides helmet kept in a warm place.

maybe a good wash. I find if you use your helmet alot and dont look after it, it can smell pretty ripe.

so remember to clean it and let it air dry after each use when possible.... don't want any nasty bacteria build up.

Recently stripped all the lining out of mine and washed in the sink, considering it didnt smell or look dirty there was a suprising amount of shit released!

Maybes after a wet ride leave it in a boiler cupboard or blast with a hair dryer for a couple mins to get the worst out.

my helmet is only a month old, but has stunk since it got soaked through last week. If seems to be completely dry now but smells. I actually came on here to ask the same question

I have had mine apart and given the liners a quick rinse under tap not had much success.

Any reason I should not try some fabrize??

I was going to go with perfume  As long as it doesn't contain chemicals that will disintegrate the lining or irritate your skin then I dont imagine its a problem. I figured that if my skin can withstand perfume so can the helmet. Never sprayed febreeze on myself to find out the answer to that one

I have - many many moons ago when I was a student after a night in a smoky club I would febreeze myself when I got in. Never broke out in hives so I reckon it's fine

if the liner is not removable take off the visor and was the helmet in a sink with baby shampoo.

to push a towel in side and try to get it as dry as possible then simply pop in the tumble dryer.

im just joking either hang it above a radiator or fold a towel place on top of radiator and the helmet on top

or a large 2 litre bottle on top of the rad and put the helmet over the top put a folded towel on the floor next to it if there is any possibility you could knock it off. i wouldn't want freebreeze on my head
