TC1474 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Anyone a fan of the original 1965 Thunderbirds? If like me you are a child of the 60's, then maybe like me you grew up with it. I was fortunate enough to go to school with a couple of kids whose parents worked for Gerry Anderson and go to see them make the original programmes back in the 60's.Well, they are currently making 3 new programmes using the original studios and techniques to celebrate the 50th anniversary.I have just pre ordered the DVD as they will not be on general release, but if you are interested and want to know more, then have a look at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...1960s-recordin Quote
Guest Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Aww just you then lol.....enjoy your DVD Quote
Glorian Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I think they used to show it on BBC 1 or 2 on a sunday probably about 10-15 years back. I remember i used to watch it, I still have my old tracy island up in the loft with TB 1 2 and 3 Quote
JRH Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Looked at that TC, and to indulge in a bit of nostalgia have ordered a copy. Just need supercar, Joe 90, fireball ...................... Oooppps dropped int 60's mode then. Quote
soll Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 been watching the new thunderbirds series ... thats basically the same with modern tech.all the scenery is modelled with only the characters as CGI..... i like it. Quote
Joe85 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 When they built Tracy Island on Blue Peter using bog roll and washing up liquid bottles...I had Thunderbird 1, 2 and 5(? The little yellow submarine that went I. T2's cargo hold) Quote
TC1474 Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Had a really good look around the studios today when we werre part of the guided tour before everything gets pulled down.Really interesting learning how they made the new programmes, handling the models and puppets and seeing just how scruffy the sets are but how good it looks on screen. Can't wait for my DVD's to arrive now Quote
MR_W Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Loved Thunderbirds as a kid. My parents actually managed to get me the in demand island in the early 90's. Had Thunderbirds 1 - 4 (4 being the yellow sub). Never managed to get a 5 tho Quote
TC1474 Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Unfortunately the site will not allow me to post up any pictures as the files are too big, but it was a fasinating insight into how the camera can track the eye and some of the tricks they used. Quote
mailee66 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 When I read the title of this post I thought Triumph Thunderbird, Have to admit though it did bring back memories, Fireball XL5, Supercar, Thinderbirds, oh and Stingray, them were the days. Quote
Adam Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 My older brothers used to watch it but it skipped my generation and is now popular again with the younger ones, my nephew got Tracey island and some of the planes (?) for Christmas! Quote

I had 1 through 4, but not the proper island - just a somewhat sloppy attempt at the crummy Blue Peter one.I was tempted for a while to change my BMW's name to Captain Scarlet, on account of how often it died and I brought it back to life... TC1474 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 This is pretty cool though, my best mate is a thunderbirds fan and was telling me all about the new series they're going to bring out soon will have to send him this link too, cheers! The only new series is the CGI version which came out last year and was shown on ITV on a Saturday morning. Its (inmo) is OK but not a patch on the original. The 3 new episodes will not for the forseeable future be on general release. Only those people (apparently) who backed the project will get the new episodes, so I am looking forward to getting mine, but it is hoped that it may lead to further episodes being made in the future. The 3 episodes made were taken from 3 audio books that were never made into a screen version, so they have the original voices, and apparenty there are a few more stories they can use if they get further commisions and the demand and the money is available.I can't show it here, but they had to build a new Thunderbird 4 (Submarine) which only appears for about 15 seconds. It cost a fortune in relative terms, so it is horribly expensive to make.Talking of which, RIP Sylvia Anderson (the voie of Lady P) who passed away today at the age of 88. Quote
