rice-pudding Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Put the ybr all back together and after a couple of years she started up. The bike is idling really high, about 4-5k rpm, the carb settings are exactly the same as before cleaning and everything appears fine, when I cut the choke it still idles high. Can any one shed some light? Quote
fullscreenaging Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 There should be an idle screw on the right hand side (as you sit on it) when the bike is at normal running temp turn screw anti-clockwise and bring the revs down to 1200-1300 rpm Quote

The cable is probably trapped somewhere, or the outer part of the cable may not be seated properly in the adjuster at either end of the cable. Quote
rice-pudding Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 I'm thinking throttle cable may be the answer, the carb doesn't have an idle screw as such, just fuel and air mixture screws which I have tweaked with no results and I can't spot any air leaks, I'll try the throttle cable idea Quote
rice-pudding Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 I've narrowed it down to the throttle cable, I lubricated it a bit bow when I start it up it idles fine but when I twist the throttle the revs rise and won't drop back down. Think I'll have to remove the cable and have a good look at it Quote

eastanglianbiker Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 it could be the throttle grip sticking as well on the handlebar either undo the housing and get lots of lightweight oil down it or replace it as it might be frayed somewhere and catching on the outer liner of the cable Quote
rice-pudding Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 There's no throttle return, just the one cable. Will have a another look tomorrow, I'm just happy it idles at normal speed now, I think the neighbours were getting a bit peeved Quote
