Anyone got the Optimate 3 charger?

I put my battery on charge last night about 8pm and the amber light 'SAVE' light came on for about 15 - 20 minutes. Then the green 'TEST' light started to flash. I understood that this may flash for up to 12 hours to test if the battery is holding charge then either charge the battery or display the RED 'F*CKED' light.

Green light has been flashing now for some 15 hours ... and still flashing.

Is this right? Or is battery knackered?

The Amber light is a charge light then a test light

It will keep cycling through if it needs to usually every 30 mins

Just leave it to do its stuff till you either get a green light or the red light of death!

Are you sure that it's been flashing constantly? Mine has the amber led on when charging......then goes solid green.....and then periodically goes to flashing green for test mode for a bit......and then goes back to solid green for a bit and cycles solid green and flashing green......

As far as I can tell, Bob, yes! ... It is still flashing here now.

from the manual

Delivery of current to the battery is interrupted for 12 hours* to allow the program to determine the battery's ability to retain charge. For batteries

with a good state of health LED #5 (green) should continue to flash for the full 12 hours* period. Read the section NOTES ON TEST RESULTS on

reasons for poor test results or how to test a battery that returns a good result but cannot deliver sufficient power once it is returned to service.

* *If charge was less than 12 hours, Tests extend until 24 hours has elapsed

does that clear it up for you :)

To be honest with you Stu, I don't know. Because it had been sitting on the bike for over three months I decided to give it a run on the Optimate. Thougt it wouldn't hurt. Put it back on bike and flipped the starter and I got the characteristic clicks and ignition light dimming :(

Put it back on the charger and had the #5 Green light flashing since about 8:15 last night.

If it is still flashing in morning I'll concede to buying a new battery :(

sounds buggered if you ask me! although the charger should tell you so

I had the same thing with a duff battery and the optimate. electrics aren't my thing but someone who knows, told me that although they're good they don't do a 'load test' i think was the expression. so.. it might think the battery is charged.. but it doesn't have any oomph (technicule term)

thats pretty much spot on shorty

the charger is basically checking to see if the battery holds a steady voltage so its holding charge

but if the battery is screwed then it wont have the power to start a bike
