seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Ok so my gear position switch does not work anymore and I'm looking for a replacement. Now finding these anywhere is quite hard so would one from any other suzuki with the triangle shaped white plug with 3 pins work? Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 It's bloody annoying as I can't leave the bike in neutral with the side stand down as it just cuts out. Is a neutral safety switch compulsory for mot? Quote
Stu Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 the majority of these switches never actually fail! they just need removing and cleaning up Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 Well I was changing the bulb for the neutral light and I accidently shorted it out. Would this cause the gear position switch to not work? Quote

Stu Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Is that your front sprocket?...... I was thinking the same! it needs replacing along with the rear and the chain! Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 Chain and rear sprocket is.brand new actually. The front sprocket is yet to go on as I haven't got a 24mm socket Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 And yes it did work. The light was working and everything but the bulb needed juggles about. I decided to squeeze the connections more.closely.together stupidly. Forgetting to disconnect.the battery. Now the light won't work at all Quote
Stu Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I would check it with a multimeter to see if you are getting power in neutral Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 What colour wires is that? I have a black blue and a pink one Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 on the bulb contact there is only 2 wire and both are different colours from the sensor wires Quote
Stu Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 It doesnt matter if you are getting power to the bulb holder then you have a contact issue with the bulb if no power then start working backwards towards the sensor check all three wires for power and stick the earth to the battery from the multimeter Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 erm if you have fitted the new chain and running it on that knackered sprocket then you are killing the chain http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Elora-1x-24mm-1-2-Square-Drive-Hexagon-Socket-Professional-Tool-15313-/391017484127?hash=item5b0a754f5f:g:JjAAAOSwFNZWxXQ9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
Tango Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 We're not having a go at you mate.....but as EAB says, you'll knacker your new chain with that sprocket.....best change it as soon as you can..... Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 luckily enough i have a shifter spanner here which fits at the limit of its adjustment. big bar here also. i'll flatten the lock washer tomorrow and have a go at loosening it! i know its not good for the chain but i had to take it on a quick test drive today after fixing the carb Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 it will be bloody tight you might need a mate or someone to push hard on the rear brake and mind the adjustable spanner doesnt slip off as we all know how skinned knuckles hurt Quote
seanycozzie16v Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 going to have a big piece of scaffold piping over the spanner for leverage so no chance of skinned knuckles. anyway back to the point. i bought a sensor off a 02 gsxr600. it was very cheap and looks very similar so what the hell! i know the gixxers are 6 speed and mine is 5 but the neutral part is all im worried about!
