Lumor_uk Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Can I just chuck these, I don't seem to ever use them I'm in the process of loading my tool box onto my wall using tool organisers. I mean you go to car boots and see bucket loads of these rusty sockets but never any metric for sale Quote
Stu Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 NO!! keep hold of them you never know when you might need to use one on a worn nut or bolt that will remove it instead of rounding off they are also ideal to hammer on to worn nuts and bolts without fear of destroying a decent socket! Quote

Stu Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 talking of grinding them I cut the side out of an old socket yesterday so I could get a temperature sensor off a car! it had a wire running to the middle that you cant remove and you cant get a spanner in so I cut a socket and threaded the wires through then just used it as normal Quote
Lumor_uk Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 okay i'll chuck them somewhere else Quote
Mr Fro Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Sacrilege! You can't go cutting and hammering them you beasts! I may not have used mine for a decade or so but I still keep them because they look nice. Plus they were bast*rd expensive. Quote

I've got my grandad's and his dad's tools. Some are still in regular use. Got a lovely old club hammer with a wooden handle that's worn over the years from generations of my family using it. Can just imagine the stuff it's whacked over the years! Quote

My dad bought me the socket set when I had my first car. Had no use for the new fangled metric sockets in those days. Quote
NeilM Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 When I started my apprenticeship several old boys were retiring so they very kindly gave me a lot of their gear. Most of my gear now is gathering dust in a large lock up at work. The ba and Whitworth and to some extent the imperial haven't seen the light of day for 20 year...lolCan't chuck it though. You just never know There is a vehicle section in the beamish museum we were at tother week and I got talking to the youth employee. He was quite astounded he'd met someone who could talk more shite than him about spanners Quote
