Hello, I'm wondering how much it would cost to replace the clutch on a grom? It seems a clutch kit is not overly expensive, but I wouldn't have a clue how to fit it!

I ask as I've seen one advertised as 'starting and running fine, but I think it needs the clutch looking at'

As I have no mechanical abilities whatsoever should I stay well clear of this?

Most things on the MSX are pretty easy to do since it is small. The clutch is about the size of a fist, so not massive and powerful like bigger bikes. It also helps that you can change the clutch without removing the engine from the frame.

Here is the service manual - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9HD9e9_00lSZENBS3psZ050QVU

You can buy uprated clutch springs and plates, which are more hard wearing. Many people seem to be doing this, especially if it's spent/spending a lot of time with its front wheel in the air :-)

Oops I posted in the wrong section, sorry!

Thanks for the info Arwen, that is encouraging. Have you changed the clutch on your grom?

I'm tempted as the bike is listed for £550, then again there could be loads of problems besides the clutch.

That is extremely cheap for a grom ! I'd be wary of it. Many are stolen...

I've not changed the clutch myself yet. Not put enough miles on it yet. When I do need to change it, I will most likely do it myself though. And probably put uprated parts in, simply because they are not much more expensive.

If you like, send me the link to I and I can have a wee look. See if there is anything else obviously wrong with it.

There has just been another fuel pump recall so it will probably need to get that done. (Warranty job)

Yes I did think it was suspiciously cheap, plus the fact there are no pictures on the ad..

Perhaps I should just leave this one, don't want the police turning up andconfiscating it!

You've knackered the clutch already? these bikes haven't even been out for a year yet? Contact honda see if they'll go halves.

...I think I'll pass on that one

Sadly, we will never know how fast the Mod Dam 1199 Panigale-powered Grom can go, because the bike burned down completely. After a few test runs, a friend of Kleff's and mechanic in the project also rode it. A fuel line ruptured and the motorcycle caught on fire, burning completely and being reduced to a smoldering wreck.
