WkdBen Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Hello, I recently bought my first ever motorbike however very slowly regretting getting this particular bike because of all the problems I've had with it. Basically it doesn't want to start anymore, if anyone can give me any advice then it would be much appreciated! Im taking it to a garage mid January however id rather fix the problem myself if possible. "> Here is a link to the video of me trying to start it. The spark plug sparks with a blue spark, and also when I try the spark plug is dry when I check it. Any help would be appreciated! Quote
xtreme0964 Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 I'm no mechanic so can only guess, maybe spark plug?Don't know if bikes have starter motors lolIf I get caught in heavy Scottish rain the first starts I get that and I assume it's water in the spark plugSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

Any help would be appreciated!Hi ., I take it yours is a carbed version, so you should be looking at fuel delivery, are you getting fuel to the cylinder, taking out the spark plug and seeing if its wet, could be a start, also while its out check for a spark by pushing it back into the plug cap and earthing it on the bike frame, if you got a spark when you turn the engine over ,then you can look at the carbs Quote
TimR Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Have you dropped it ? Or heavily bumped it over a kerb They have a tilt sensor on the fuel system that can shut fuel off in event of accident. You have fuel in it Tap if fitted turned on or if low fuel on reserve.Check fuses for fuel pump fuse if electrical Quote
ThePhatomfart Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Hi, dont think these got the tip sensor till 2007 Quote

Thanks for the response, It is the carbed version. I've checked the spark plug against the bike frame and it sparks with a blue spark. Also the plug is dry when I check it after attempting to start it. I took the tank off a week or so before the bike stopped starting and I think I rode it for roughly 40-50ish miles after that.. Would it run for that long if it was kinked? Quote

I haven't checked the fuses so I'll give that ago! Thanks for the response Quote

xtreme0964 Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Maybe a blocked fuel pipe? Could it be something to do with the removal of the tank? Reserve switch is switched to off maybe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
TimR Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Always start with the basics You have a spark Check for fuel delivery to the carbNon fuel pump testTrace the pipe from tank to carb ...if tap is fitted turn to off position Remove pipe from carb place end of pipe into suitable receptacle (old bottle etc) turn tap on if youhave fuel flow you can eliminate the tank/tap/pipe as an issue ..if no tap its still a case of pull pipe off but you will have the chance of fuel flowing so be ready to replace hose back in location quickly .If fuel pump fitted inline youneed to check that it is operating these tend to work on pulse ie when you turn the keyon it will prime the carbs and then only activate when fuel pressure decreases and reprime .and that it is receiving fuel using similar method for non pump fitted (remove pipe on the tank side of pump ) to check for output flow ... remove carb end of pipe and place in receptacle and turn key on ..it should spurt fuel ..if it doesnt .try activating the starter and see if this gives any output. If not then issue with pump or blockage in output pipe (look for grotty inline filters )If you have fuel flow then its a carb issue .Remember fuel is highly flammable so take care with any sources of ignition and spilt fuel .( not teaching to suck eggs but )Why did youtake tank off btw ? Ricco1 Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Assuming there's compression it must be a fuel problem. Is there a fuel filter somewhere? sometimes they are in a little chamber that screws off under the fuel. If so unscrew it, having switched the fuel tap off, check if it's locked with gunge. Is there a fuel pipe to the carb you could take off, make sure the petrol is flowing there freely? Quote

Ill give this ago tomorrow if I get time! and i took the tank off because the choke wasnt and still isnt working however before I could find the problem it started to rain Quote
WkdBen Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 Thanks for all the advice everyone! Ill be using it all hopefully tomorrow if I have time and when the weather is good enough. Ill be sure to report back after! Quote
Adsh Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Had the same problem with mine, it was a carb issue I had to take it apart a couple of times give it all a good clean, the jets kept getting blocked. also the spring bit at the top was stuck so I took that apart and cleaned it up runs perfect now Quote
