Could anyone tell me what this unused plug is for on my bmw f650gs. It's difficult googling something like this if you don't know what it is. It's under the seat, not sure where it disappears off to. And I don't know what that green crap is, it's rock hard so probably some sort of glue.

I believe you can attach a vibrating prostate massager to it. Perk up your morning commute.

RantMachine or old-timer may be able to help with it :)

How many cables going to it and what are the cable colours.

If 2 cables and 1 is brown, could be an accessory point which may or may not be ignition controlled, (believe Brown is earth on the BMs)

I've also just found these 2. They must be for the abs/heated grip switches which don't work but the colours don't seem to match up with the abs and I can't find the heated grip circuit because I'm guessing it's got fancy technical name rather than heated grips. Any help is much appreciated.

One black and grey, one red and grey.

there was an often mentioned mystery socket.. that produced a strange voltage with the ignition ON... something like 6v. it might be that.. the thought was it was for some gadget that was never actually fitted to the production bikes.

I would stick a tester on it.. if by chance its 12v then that might be very useful.. if not. then.. just forget about it.

Guess I'll just leave it then, cheers.

I've solved the other wires problem. The haynes manual says the '02 doesn't have heated grips or any orange cabling but the '04-'07s do and I have the diagram for it, the previous owner must have upgraded it but no idea yet why they are detached.

Hey frazer

Sorry I did not react before, I just saw your question now.

And I'm afraid that I'm no help to you, I am a technical nitwit and I cannot remember seeing anything like that under my seat.

But I'll still have a look tomorrow in daylight and check the manual.

The green 'crap' is not standard/original, I can tell you that !

If you mean by '02 the year 2002, I must say that your Haynes is not quite accurate.

My F650 GS is from 2002 and I have both heated grips (official BMW) and ABS.

But mine is a Dakar, so it may be a bit different from the 'standard'F650 GS, but I doubt that.

It's the cable that would link up to the fuel tank vent valve on a US model. Some sort of emissions gadgetry. EU models have the cable, but not the fuel vent equipped tank! US models also have a 1.5l smaller tank to make space for the extra gubbinz. So mine had the same loose connector, nothing to worry about :thumb:

Yep, Rant is right. :thumb:

I scanned the Dutch GS-forum, and all the F650 GS 'specialists' (those who maintain, built/rebuilt or modified their bikes) mentioned this USA-feature too.

In my manual there is no mention of this though.

I saw that mine has this cable too, I never noticed it before.

Does anyone know what volts and amps it is? It might be possible to make a phone charger or some other gadget.
