Yet to see the point in one.

I had them when they were new and quirky - but the only thing that happens now (if it's not an emergency siren) is that people yell "STFU!" Then they carry on doing what they were doing.

Save the cash.

I’d say an alarm is only worth it if will be in hearing range.

Thieves dont seem to give a funk and normally, neither do passers by. Just my opinion.

Thanks guys, understand perfectly what you're saying, I see having an alarm fitted provides at least two small benefits, having one fitted can give you an insurance discount and it's just one more thing that makes the bike less attractive to some of the thieving scum bags out there, if its even at least made slightly more difficult for the bike thieving scum bag he's probably going to be more inclined to leave it alone

The Meta alarm/immobiliser on my Speedy seems to do a decent job...... 8-)

You may find that, to enjoy an insurance discount, the alarm may need to be installed by a registered installer..... My insurance broker wanted a copy of the installation document.....

I never noticed any reasonable discount - which is why I recently pressed Bikesure for an answer. I’m convinced there is no such thing, and that they simply use it as part of their bargaining over final price. Bikesure couldn’t give one single example of a named security product linked to a policy discount. They still haven’t addressed the issue. The whole thing is bullshit and they know it.

Over the last few years I’ve stopped declaring any security products at all. The result? Nothing. Premiums went down year on year.

I’d rather have a couple of substantial chains securing the bike to a big object.

I was offered a five percent discount by a local broker if the bike had an alarm and a thatcham approved security device, what did confuse me was they asked if it had an immobiliser fitted (electronic), I replied yes it comes with an immobiliser already on OEM, they wouldn't recognise the OEM immobiliser as it isn't thatcher approved, I too am beginning to think that its all just crap, will install an alarm though, more for making it less attractive to a thieving nob head
