Some years ago I worked for a large company that had a bit of a reputation for knocking off other peoples products. At one point they were trying to do a distribution deal with a piss-ant little American company that had severe delusions of grandeur and a thoroughly obnoxious bully-boy attorney as one of its directors. He thought he was a real hot-shot, and after weeks of posturing he sent me the most ridiculous and overblown confidentiality agreement I have ever seen, in which the slightest transgression on our part would have seen them own the entire business. Utterly naive and laughable.

But not as naive and laughable as the fact that once we had cut out most of his bullshit, he sent me the final version as a Word document to print out and sign. Buried several pages into it was a clause stating that in the event of a breach of contract "The non-breaching party shall be entitled to equitable relief". Naturally I changed this to "hand relief" before signing and returning it. A countersigned version duly landed on my desk a few days later with the change undiscovered and intact.

And true to form, the company I used to work for has just shafted the Americans good and proper, and the swivel-eyed attorney is now brandishing his contract. Happy days...

I’d like a follow to this story if and when possible. It’ll made interesting reading

Yup - just as long as I'm not the one who has to administer the damages to the client...
