husoi Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Hello all.Honda is well known to have a weird preference to make things difficult to themselves (honda howners). So, in the ST1300 the ideal place Honda found to put the fuel filter is next to the pump inside the lower tank. Because I've finish 1 of my 3 ongoing projects and starting to get bored I looked into what others say the filter should be changed.According to Honda, this is to be done when the pump goes bust and the whole kit costs around £150 depending on where you get it.There are a few filters on ebay from £40 up to £85 OEMNow...A normal high flow reusable filter costs between £10 and £20 and some even come with a glass casing so you can inspect it. A disposable filter is about the same figure.Has anybody fitted an external filter to the Pan European instead of replacing the internal one?thanks in advance Quote
fastbob Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Well surely the only reason to replace the internal one would be if it was so dirty that it was impeding fuel flow . Fitting an additional filter would not alleviate this situation . If the bike is running ok I'd just leave well alone . Quote
Stu Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 The fuel filter on a lot of bikes is within the tank and there is a fair few people that replace them with an external one with no issues The only thing you need to make sure is that the fuel line you used to replace the filter is fuel resistant on both sides and not just the inside like most are! if you don't you will be out riding one day then all of a sudden no fuel Quote
fastbob Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Oh , I see , you want to remove the one in the tank and fit a external one . Quote
husoi Posted May 26, 2020 Author Posted May 26, 2020 Oh , I see , you want to remove the one in the tank and fit a external one . That's the idea Of course only when the inner filter is in need of a new one Quote
