Leebutt Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Hi,I have a 2015 Yamaha nmax 125 that has developed a starting issue that seems to correct itself for months then Randomly reappears. I turn on the ignition and pull break leaver then hit the electric start button and every now and then there will be nothing, no attempt to turn over or noise. I’m thinking maybe the safe switch is playing up/ sticking some times. Any advice/ideals greatly received as to solutions And weather is an easy enough job to try with my very limited scooter knowledge. Thanks in advanceLee Quote
Tiggie Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Give the brake lever switch (you should be able to see it, you will see where the brake lever pushes it in when pulled) and the starter button a good squirt of wd-40. That should dissolve any crud that has built up Quote
Cumbria John Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 hi. I would say that it would be best to buy a new one ( cheap enough) In my experience, if it is playing you up now, its going to fail completely soon and leave you stranded somewhere. Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I think I need a little education here - Why Brake Lever switch? Most bikes it is usually the Clutch that has the safety switch (and of course, the side stand). Quote

Most bikes it is usually the Clutch that has the safety switch (and of course, the side stand). Apparently you need to apply either the front or rear brake. It's a scooter so I guess no clutch lever anyway. The instructions specify closing the throttle and apply either brake - I suppose it prevents it lurching forward if the throttle is knocked so that the clutch engages. Quote
Guest Swagman Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 As Tiggie says clean the contacts on safety switch and pay special attention to the starter button, I have had this issue before and it was the starter button just needed cleaning, that would be about ten years ago I have not needed to change it yet So don’t see the point in buying a new one. I did not consider that it was one of those mythical creatures of Satan - A scoooooter! Quote
