Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 My new tail tidy has arrived, really pleased with the quality, it looks fabulous. As usual I'll need to adapt some form of lighting for the number plate for MOT time. SBS do some neat bolts with LEDs built in, but they're a lot more expensive than similar products. £23.99 as opposed to £14.99. I'm sure plenty of folks on here will have fitted something similar. Any suggestions or recommendations please? Bear in mind it's for Bobber so needs to be suitably retro and discreet. The tail tidy light is a classic Lucas shape. Quote
Mickly Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 The number plate light on the mighty Speedtriple R&G tail tidy consists of a clear section at the bottom of the tail light lens. Obviously this only works if the tail light is above the number plate. while you’re at it remember that a rear facing reflector is required in the UK, the R&G one didn’t have this so I had to improvise. The light unit supplied is American, it doesn't have a clear section at the bottom, hence the need for something to comply with UK regs. There's no reflector either but that's a simple fix. The LEDs in the number plate bolts look good, but there may options I haven't spotted. Quote

Could you remove the red lens & sand the red coating off the inside? 1 Quote

Gerontious Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Never ceases to amaze me that companies that sell to the UK, or are based within the UK produce these things with little or no regard to the end user and legality. its the most basic thing, a number plate must be illuminated and yet... 'you're on your own to sort that pesky little detail out". Quote

The default is a Lucas type lens which has a clear section for the number plate. I've solved the problem by ordering one of those as well. I didn't spot that the lens I had ordered didn't have the clear section. The guy is a one man workshop based in Pasadena, he's been really helpful and the quality of the kit is superb. Quote
