pumilio Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 This sounds great - the wife and sprogs are likely coming for lunch via 4 wheels and I'll take the bike a bit earlier. Anyone meeting up to head over from Manchester? I know the A56 route between Manchester to Sheffield pretty well - snake pass is awesome (try not to be too distracted by the scenery) and the Ladybower is beautiful. West of the little bridge is a layby that has a tea/butty stand, and just east of the bridge is the scenic pullover for the reserve. Where abouts is the picnic spot relative to these? The spot marked on this map:http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en ... =UTF8&z=11makes it look like there is a little pullover on the south side of the road west of the butty stand pullover? Quote
Guest Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 sorry folks my first map was slightly out..........from Manchester side.......just before you get to the first of the 2 bridges (the one that crosses the ladybower) there's a left turn, it follows the ladybower damm up with the damm on your right. Don't worry when you feel like you've gone too far.you haven't. There's a roundabout at the end turn right and you'll be coming into the picnic area. Google will show the roundabout and the picnic area in satellite mode but you don't see the connecting drive cos of trees.http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr ... 19727&z=12You can't see the picnic area from the snake so don't panic. Philgale put a photo up of the bridge, he took that photo from the track ........ on the map it's an unknown road so sorry there's no name as far as i know. From Sheffield side, dependant on which way you go, you'll either cross both bridges, or pass one on your left and cross the second, just after the second turn right and then follow the road. hope that's clear. TC Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 West of the little bridge is a layby that has a tea/butty stand, and just east of the bridge is the scenic pullover for the reserve. Ed. The turn for the picnic site is on the left just before the bridge you mention. If you come to a set of traffic lights you have gone to far (Turn right Its easier to turn around on that road, and come back about a mile) Quote
