DannyF Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Hi guys me again, took my ybr125 out the other day for a 11mile ride, rode perfectly for 6, stopped for a drink and as I pulled away to continue my bike misfired and engine and electricals cut out ghosting to a stop, I tried riding it again but same thing happened, Any ideas before I take it to a shop? Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 First thing I'd check is the battery and the battery connections, especially the earth strap. This is the time of year when batteries like to die on you. Sometimes they give you some warning they are on the way out, but I've had some that run fine and then just suddenly drop dead. It could be a bad connection, the earth connection being the most usual culprit, often where it connects to the frame gets corroded over the winter. Quote
KiwiBob Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 (edited) If you have no electrics check out all the connections and your fuses. Its unclear in your post but it sounds like it starts and runs but then cuts out. If that's the case then it could be a fuel or electrical problem. Edited January 30, 2022 by KiwiBob Quote
billy sugger Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 If it ran OK fof 6 miles, but then died it could be the reg/rec packed up so not charging battery Quote
Fozzie Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 (edited) You're not setting off with the choke on are you? Edit - If the later YBR has one. Some of the injected 125's have a little choke lever. I remember a 125 hopping and cutting out and the owner was baffled why it would start, do 10 feet, cut out. It was just the choke left on. Fozzie Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 Didn't spot this, if it's not on the handlebar it doesn't have one. One thing I always suspect with Yamaha's is coils, especially on the older engine types, which use recycled parts. They often start up find, then fail under load and mis-fire/cough before stopping dead. There are videos online showing how to test the coil with a multi-meter, but they are cheap to swap out (if you've ruled out everything else) Quote
