aceracinguk Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Asking for a friend - with a planned trip to Norway coming up (in 3 weeks) my friend has yet to receive his new driving licence back from DVLA (due to massive post-Lockdown backlogs). Multiple attempts to speak to someone have drawn a blank. (The licence renewal was for a simple medical required for his HGV entitlement, which he doesn't even use). He still has his old licence which expired this month. Does anyone know if when arriving by ferry from Denmark there is any requirement to show your driving licence? Quote
Gerontious Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 (edited) Very unlikely. He just needs to be a tad careful not to attract the attention of the politi when out on the open road, like anywhere. Ive never heard of any border control at any European port demanding to see a driving license.. that's not their concern. its all about identity/purpose of visit. and passports. (or visa where required) Edited May 20, 2022 by Gerontious 1 Quote
bonio Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 His problem would come if he were involved in an accident - even if it's not his fault. Can't imagine Norway being the sort of place where they'd have a laugh and a beer with him as he regales them with the tale of how the DVLA went into melt down during lockdown. Quote
M620 Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 If it’s only the photo card that’s expired at 4b, and 11 is still in date he shouldn’t have any problem if stopped on a bike or in a car. If he’s driving an HGV might be a bit different if his medical due. You can receive a small fine for an out of date photo but I think it’s very rarely imposed in Europe Quote
keith1200rs Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 DVLA don't seem too slow at staight renewals - applied online for mine on Wednesday and received it in the post today! Quote
