Have you got a multimeter to measure the battery? If you are feeling energetic you could try bump starting the bike. Mississippi Bullfrog Posted September 27, 2022 Share Posted September 27, 2022 Voltage isn't the whole story. A discharged battery can show 12v at rest. You're really looking for at least 12.6v minimum and for the voltage to hold under load. A partially discharged battery can spin the starter but not have anything left to produce a decent spark. If it fires easily from a bump start then first thing is to give the battery an overnight charge. Come the onset of cold weather this happens a lot. Batteries that are colder have less capacity. oldgrump Posted September 27, 2022 Share Posted September 27, 2022 Hi, Not sure what bike you have, but if the starter motor is spinning, and engine's not turning over, and bike bumps easily, then I would say depending on bike? That the cogs/chain between starter and sprag clutch, or even the sprag clutch has failed. Some bikes have a chain, some have a series of cogs!!! What's the model and year? oldgrump Posted September 29, 2022 Share Posted September 29, 2022 On the left hand side of engine there are 2 large case's, on the front case, there is a small case at upper rear, underneath there are 2 small cogs which go from the starter motor to the sprag clutch, check to see if they look all okay. If you remove them you should feel the large cog to the left which is the back of the sprag clutch, this cog should only go around one way, if it spins by hand both ways, it's knackered.
