The fork oil at least seems to get overlooked as something that needs periodically changing. I changed it on an old sv650, and the oil that came out was horrible. As for bushes or other parts I tend to think, if I've got something apart I might as well change anything that might need doing whilst I'm there, but that's probably me being unnecessary. Someone with better knowledge than me will probably be along to correct me. Ah OK, yeah that makes sense...Well you seem to have more knowledge than me so i'll take your advice and look into doing this... I just hope I don't damage the nice new paintwork! Quote

I just hope I don't damage the nice new paintwork! Honestly I don't . The fork oil can be done without taking too much apart. It depends a but on the servicing history and mileage of the bike I guess. If you know at some point it's probably been done. The sv I had, there was no indication in the paperwork it had ever been done and I wanted to try a different weight oil in it anyway. Plenty of good youtube videos on how to do it. Quote
bud Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 yes I would definitely change the fork oil. It's something that always gets overlooked as it's a pain removing the forks to do it correctly. 1 Quote
Ben_Jammin420 Posted January 28, 2023 Author Posted January 28, 2023 A few pictures of the next bits removed/dismantled, and 1 or 2 pics of where I am currently with the restoration.... Horn has already been reattached as shown below, no new parts used just fully cleaned, stripped and painted and cleaned/polished the bolts, nuts and washers. And here's where I am as of today: 1 Quote

Ben_Jammin420 Posted February 11, 2023 Author Posted February 11, 2023 Sorry for the delay with this post but here we go, pics below of all that's left to dismantle: Rear wheel dismantled next: Sprocket removed, as you can see from where the lugs were the rubber has deteriorated and i have already replaced these with brand new ones bought online for around £14. Removed any engine attachments/hoses/wiring to allow me to remove the engine. Then the carb unit: Rear brake linkage: and finally...just a frame! Quote
Ben_Jammin420 Posted February 11, 2023 Author Posted February 11, 2023 Rear shock and undershield removed: Rear shock bearing removed, (wasn't initially sure whether I should have or not but thought it would be a good idea considering i had already dismantled it anyway... 1 Quote

Ben_Jammin420 Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 All bolts, cleaned/polished as best as possible - many of these were covered in rust so very happy with the end result: And all the other bits, cleaned etc and ready to put back on: Quote
Ben_Jammin420 Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 Frame following paint and ready for re-assembly (pics are a not the best sorry but my originals have gone missing?!?...) Quote
Ben_Jammin420 Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) From here I literally used all of my images, a couple of online blueprints and common sense to rebuild the bike basically doing everything in reverse... So first off I started with the ignition assembly: The satisfaction of finally being able to put parts back on instead of taking them off was unbelievable - bearing in mind at this stage it had been around 7 months since I first started this project! All plastic/non-metal parts cleaned, repaired and ready for re-install: Next I re-fitted all parts attached directly to the frame: Front engine mount: Before - After - Other frame pieces: Pre-fitting engine bolts, I did this to make sure I had all the right nuts/bolts/parts prior to fully fitting/tightening anything - parts lists/diagrams for all separate assemblies were available online which were a huge help! Ben_Jammin420 Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 Extremely satisfying finally getting to unwrap the restored parts... Rear brake installed: Engine top mount: 1 Quote
Ben_Jammin420 Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 Next thing to be fitted was the side/kick stand Very much liking the contrast of silver and black at this stage.. Attached the rear frame 1 Quote
Ben_Jammin420 Posted March 25, 2023 Author Posted March 25, 2023 Next I decided to start fitting the wiring loom... took me a few goes to get everything in the right place but got there in the end Unwrapped more of the frontal pieces, front frame, mirrors, headlamp, horn.. Quote
