oudafuq Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 So as I’m on a bit of a budget I’ve found a 2013 bike that’s been left for a year and I’m thinking of buying. I’ve clocked that the chain will need renewal as it’s pretty solid but the rest look’s okay, just a bit of rust on spokes and a few fasteners obviously it has no mot but it does fire up okay what should I be looking for and what should I replace before putting on road thanks in a advance Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 Check the age of the tyres. Also check if they've been kept properly inflated whilst laid up. If they are more than 5 years old they'll probably need replacing. Check where the bike has been stored. If it's been allowed to get rust then things like brakes and cables may need stripping and freeing off. Replace the oil and filter as a matter of course. Probably also need to replace the coolant and brake fluid. Check all lights and electrics. A new chain means new sprockets as well. 1 Quote

Rear tyre was replaced last year, not certain on front it’s got 13000 miles so I had planned on oil and filter change Quote
Breezin Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 You haven't daid what bike it is. First thing I'd be doing is searching online for common issues in that model. MCN reviews, dedicated forum, general feedback. If that all checks out, I'd pay attention to engine and gearbox, not so much consumables... maybe get a mechanic to have a listen, at least. Quote
