chunkyfarts Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Hello I bought my bike unseen as I live on one of the Scottish islands so had it freighted up. It's a 2020 CB125F and from the pics on the sellers website I could see there was an issue with the instrument clear plastic but didn't think too much of it. Looks to have been eaten by some kind of chemical and especially at night is a pain in the arse. As a new rider I want to quickly and easily see what gear I'm in and this just refracts and distorts from the backlight hitting the Fd up surface. I've included a quick screenshot so you get the idea. Is this just sold as a sealed unit so I'd need to replace the whole thing, clocks and all, or can I buy that plastic separately? Anyone know of any websites with exploded view parts diagrams for this bike ? Any help appreciated Quote
chunkyfarts Posted April 10, 2023 Author Posted April 10, 2023 Also wondering if that would be an MOT fail..... Quote
billy sugger Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Try CSMNL, (consolidated motor spares Netherlands). Look up your bike and it gives exploded diagrams of the parts as well as a parts list 1 Quote

An hours worth of elbow grease will see it right. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Polywatch-Acrylic-Plastic-Scratch-Remover/dp/B07F2QGVXG Edited April 10, 2023 by Tinkicker 1 Quote
Davidtav Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 This sounds ridiculous but cheap toothpaste will sort this. I can’t see exactly how bad the damage is from the photos. But start with wet and dry paper to remove the damage. Move up the grades to 1500 … and then use toothpaste on a cloth. It will take a while. I have had good results with Sainsbury’s basic toothpaste. Cheapest toothpaste works best … I have restored plastic hatch screens on my boat in this way. I’m sure it would sort your problem 1 Quote
chunkyfarts Posted April 28, 2023 Author Posted April 28, 2023 (edited) Thank you all for the advice I took it apart last night and grabbed the nearest polish I had to hand (aluminium polish ). It must have been some kind of residue as it basically came straight off with some elbow grease. With the top cover removed I was also able to remove the protective film on the speedo/rev dials which were all scratched up. I did some digging and found the part I would have been after is "37140KPNA71 CASE COMP., UPPER" : which online sellers often seem to confuse with the separate - 61310KPNA70 COVER ASSY., METER Edited April 28, 2023 by chunkyfarts 3 Quote
