I found this cable that wasn't connected to anything under my rear seat…. Any ideas what it does or is supposed to do?

As above. It's to make it easier to trickle charge for periods when the bike isn't being used.

Yep, it's the older "TM" connector used in various smart chargers. The newer style is "SAE".

It'll be connected to the battery most likely with a couple of eyelets.

the kit you have has large croc connectors only, i bought the same about 20+ years ago by the same brand for a car and other things.

you can use pretty much any connector style to the battery you want but youll have to cut and solder the male version connector onto the cable coming from the charger.

The above link is the charger I have... do I need to buy a new one with the same connection then to use it on my bike? Or can I use what I currently got and convert it somehow?

If you buy the connectors I linked to you can easily cut the leads and put a connector on so it connects to the bike

You can then put the other end of the connector on the crocodile clips so you can then connect those up to the charger to use as you normally would if you need to

You need the correct crimping tool though

Sorry to revive an old thread….

I have some bullet connectors lying around, can I just use these instead then connect the croc clips to them?

I’m not trying to be a tight-fisted over £5 but if I have what I need already….?

do you mean replace the connector thats fitted to the bike with bullet connectors then use croc clips to connect to those?

If so then my fear would be them shorting out on something or together

I’m not too clued up on it, but why would something short out? And will there be a way to stop that from happening?

it depends on the type of connectors but if they are bare ended with nothing protecting them you will have a live and earth flapping and bouncing about near each other and if they touch then you're getting sparks and worse case a fire

The live could also touch anything that grounded on the bike like the frame and could end up with the same result

you can use any connectors as long at they are protected from shorting out

the connectors i think you mean are these?

If so then its a no from me

yea I got those connectors. I also have the female connections to them so they wouldn’t be able to make contact with each other or anything else.

I had the idea of running two terminal connection cables, separately from the positive and negative, then have something on the end of each one where I could just attach the croc clips to. I could then just locate the wires somewhere more accessible rather having to remove the seat all the time. That was just a theory though. I’m open to ideas

Best not to connect croc clips to any extension cables. They are designed to be connected directly to the battery terminals.
There is always the danger of the positive and negative crocs coming together.

It may cost but it is much safer to use the correct charging extension cables.

Yes as @JRH says really

I would move the wire to a better location and change the connectors on the charger to suit

You can then create a lead and plug combo for the crocodile clips so you can then plug that back on the charger should you need to
