HI all.

New rider, well I've not ridden since my youth when we had "estate licences" and when producers were still a thing, just passed my CBT (the 125 smell brought back some memories), theory test booked for the 10th and sorting my DAS asap.

Figured I'd introduce myself and say hi.

Lifelong petrol head.

Called in to a bike dealer on my way past and ended up buying a bike....... Rather impulsive but it is what it is.

Very excited to get out and about on the bike and enjoy what's left of our English summer. Will plan to take the bike down to spain next year possibly as I'm looking to buy a place out there.

I've possibly jumped higher that the crack of my arse and gone with a 2023 BMW F900R........ I figured at 37 and 20 years on the road I had the wisdom to be sinsible on a 100bph bike. I'm definatley not new to power, just new to bikes.

Havent messed around with skimping on protection etc. Bought myself what I think is a cool AF Carnage HJC helmet, Frank Thomas AA jeans, Alpine Stars gloves, boots and jacket.

The bike came with an Akrapovic (baffles will be removed immediately) and I have a decat and new headers on the way. Other than that the bike will likely stay standard despite my love for all things modified.

I have a good history with detailing so the bike will likely get the full works weekely

BIkes getting delivered This coming monday so will post a few pics then.

Welcome in mate.

Consider yourself very lucky. You've gone and bought a bike, and on your doorstep you have the largest sweep of England's best biking roads. From yours up to Hadrian's Wall and beyond, it's hard to go wrong.

Good choice, the F900R; it's not a crazy wild thing - although it has more power on tap than you should ever need.

Ashamed to admit it, but I'm quite envious of the helmet.

As soon as I saw the Marvel range the child in me had to buy it immediately.

I'm also a cyclist so habe a good amount of km's out on the beautiful roads around here, it'll be awesome to cover some wider distances.

Glad the bike choice wasn't fully daft. Both myself and the bike were sold the moment the guy started it up.

Booked in for a 1 hour assesment on the 16th riding a 125cc and Mod 1 training on the 1st of August, 1st test booked for the 7th. Hopefully pass that first try and get the Mod 2 done and dusted sharpish. They have said they may have an extra hour or two spare to do some big bike riding just to get me used to the bigger bikes. I don't predict much of an issue.

Assessment is mainly to judge my ability so we can decide if I need any extra time before the test. I'd be inclined to book a few hours regardless to really get things dialed in. despite my years of cycling I've yet to swing a leg over anything bigger than an average crosser 20+ years ago.

Stainless decat and headers arrived today. Should mate up nicely to the akrapovinski exhaust (I'm aware of the correct spelling but this is the most European sounding company this side of Putins bedside table)

Build quality seems pretty good. We'll see how accurate it fits etc on Monday when the bike arrives. The brand is black widow.

You guys don't seem to have any journal or log sub catagory so I'll be updating my various stages of progress here

Maybe I'll stop trying to relive the cartoons I watched as a child, maybe not. Till then I bought a dark visor to accompany the decat

I'vr got 1" pads that fit my rotary polisher. Just slap some cutting compound on a rotary and give them a seeing to?

You got a pic of the end result? Just so I can judge if its worth my graft. Cheers

Saw this the other day and couldn't resist.

I used to have one of these as a kid / early 20's. This little Teng 3/8 set dismantled more cars to a shell than I can remember. What an absolute warrior this set was. Feels nostalgic.

God I love just buying tools and car / bike parts on a whim

On a less interesting note I passed my theory. 49/50 and 63/70. I'll take that.

Maybe I'm too British but when an adult whispers to you in a silent room surely it's a panic response to whisper back? Nope, not for Marie Ellis. Not that it made a difference to me, just very amusing.

Does this seem a stupid idea? @Nick the wanderer

Someone has to try them to see if they work. It wouldn't be me, I've not seen any paint/lacquer last very long the exhaust just gets too hot. If it was a paint you could keep reapplying to keep it somewhere near.

Hmmm I'm leaning towards "Hold my beer". Surely any poor results could quickly get buffed off? I have rotary with small 1" pads would only be an afternoon to see clean metal again

You happy with the fit of the BW exhaust? I'm not going to have to persuade it with my engineering hammer am I?
