Trooper74 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I’ve purchased a Kawasaki GT550 … it’s all there. The frame is a mess but the engine turns over smoothly and all the bits are there. Yes, it will cost more than it will ever be worth .. Yes, it’s easier to buy a runner .. Yes, when it’s finished it will still be a boring Kawasaki … But I want to …. Anybody got a frame …please …. Old-codger Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Blimey you have your work cutout there but I can see why you want to do it. Good luck it will be very interesting to follow the thread. Quote
Simon Davey Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I had one, great handling, probably why they were the courier bike to have. Following with interest. Quote
Tinkicker Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Indeed. I would be very interested to look in. Quote
Simon Davey Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 So @Trooper74, is it rusted through, or does it just need a shot-blast and powder coat? Quote
Nick the wanderer Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Have fun ripping it down, not sure there will be much left but you never know. Good luck! Quote
RideWithStyles Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 getting something back on the road to a previous look able state from the neglected one it was left in, self pride of i did/managed that is very hard to justify but very satisfying. At Quick Look at the frame ive seen worse, id go with SD’s suggesting first or at least see what Sandblasters say? if they are very gentle and sympathetic it might be ok? The worst is sourcing a frame and the record to line the two up so then it’s not original but some ain’t bothered. the shaft drive cover/outer is a mess, im not sure it that is going to give more headaches over than sourcing a better used or new? i had a laugh at the cooler, I though the 2005 gsf/bandit 650 oil cooler was small and inadequate….. 1 Quote
