Guest Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Ok folks cross fingers - I've just sent this off to the Days Inn chain.Dear Sir/MadamI am writing on behalf of our forum to see if it would be possible to organise a special discount rate for our up and coming charity event in aid of Children in Need. A group of bikers (from the motorbikeforum.co.uk) dressed in fancy dress wish to escort Pudsey Bear from Edinburgh Castle to the famous Ace Cafe in London - some 480 miles in total. Around 15 intend to do the whole ride which will take place over 2 days and then other riders will be accompanying Pudsey for various legs of the journey. We intend to stop in Edinburgh on 31st Oct and have a 2nd stop in Manchester on 1st Nov. This event is being well publicised and we have also contacted the BBC, local papers and Terry Wogan for optimum coverage. I do hope you can help us out.Kind regards
Guest philgale Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 if anyone else puts there name down from now can you please pm me with what leg/legs you will be doing, i am trying to organize a thread with the info easy to hand...thanks
Guest Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) Dear Sir Terry, It has come to the attention of a group of well meaning motorcycle enthusiasts (that frequent a corner of cyberspace known as http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk) that poor innocent Pudsey has been captured and is being held by Ming the Merciless whose aim is to stop the glorious occasion that is the BBC's Children in Need showcase. We have learnt through our top secret intelligence operatives that Pudsey is to be taken to Edinburgh Castle just before 31st Oct 2008 and held their against his will until after the BBC show. We have decided therefore, as good citizens of this fair Isle not to stand idly by and let this ruffian get away with such an evil deed, therefore an intrepid group of motorcyclists will attempt to rescue Pudsey from his clutches early in the dawn of 1 Nov 08. We intend to pass Pudsey, using other biking friends from Edinburgh down the country until we can get him safely to London where we will bring him to the infamous Ace Cafe sometime late afternoon early evening of the 2nd Nov 2008 for a well earned cuppa, and bangers and mash (the traditional fayre of that establishment). There will be a group of motorcycles of all sizes from 125cc to much larger machines involved, and some will ride the complete route whereas others will join us for various legs to ensure Pudsey’s journey is successful (safety in number!) Along with our very heroic rescue attempt we will of course be collecting money for Children in Need at every stop. On a serious note, The Motorbike Forum is a group of friendly like minded motorcyclists from all over the UK who enjoy the experience of being on 2 wheels (membership of the forum being in excess of 2000; we did a similar event last year and raised £1711. Because some of the members will be riding 125cc machines and will not have passed their full motorcycle licence the majority of the route will be completed without the use of motorways (of course this will also help us avoid capture by the evil Ming!). If any listeners happen to pass or see a bunch of possibly cold and wet motorcyclists (some of whom will be sporting fancy dress over their leathers) with Pudsey over this weekend please wave, honk or show support in any other way you see fit, thank you. If anyone would like to donate to us they can do so at http://www.justgiving.com/tmbfpudseyrescue thanks. We urgently need your help to repatriate Pudsey back to the BBC where we know he will be safe.Just gone today! Foz Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 i cant see how you got away with calling the evil guy 'ming' oh wait...im pronouncing it wrong...my bad

stelmer Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Wonder if we'll get to be on TV?Anyone else but me on Daryl Denham's real radio breakfast facebook thing? Could be worth messaging him....
Guest Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 After discussing this with willow these are now in the post....They have been sent to two of the larger fuel stations/suppliers in my mind Bp & Tesco Dear Sir or Madam:I am writing on behalf of our forum (themotorbikeforum.co.uk) with regards to fuel costs for our up and coming charity event in aid of Children in Need taking place on the 31st October until the 2nd November. A group of forum members dressed in fancy dress wish to escort Pudsey Bear by riding from Edinburgh Castle to the famous Ace Cafe in London - some 480 miles in total with various stops across the journey to try and raise as much money for the appeal as we can. Around 15 users/riders of which I am one of intend to do the whole ride which will take place over 2 days and then other riders will be accompanying Pudsey for various legs of the journey. All costs involved for the group doing the full trip are being met by the riders themselves, we are also currently in contact with a large chain of hotels regarding a discount rate for accommodation so if there is any possibility of help available towards fuel costs either in the form of discount or otherwise it would be greatly appreciated. The Motorbike Forum is a group of friendly like minded motorcyclists from all over the UK who enjoy the experience of being on 2 wheels (membership of the forum being in excess of 2000; a similar event last year raised £1711 for the appeal. This event is being well publicised and we have also contacted the BBC, local papers and Terry Wogan for optimum coverage. I do hope you can help us out.http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.ukSincerely,fingers crossed
Guest Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Wonder if we'll get to be on TV?Anyone else but me on Daryl Denham's real radio breakfast facebook thing? Could be worth messaging him.... I'm on Chris Moyles - not the kinda thing he usually promotes, but he did do Children in Need last year so worth a try.
Guest Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Well done Pen! Great letter/mail - lets hope it has the desired effect!! Hopefully it wont involve specialist institutions Think it's more than likely to involve specialist institutions!!!!
nman1 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Just to confirm will probably be doing Northampton to Ace. I guess times will be sorted out later.
Guest Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Yeh, we're working on it People, contact as many people as you like, I think willow is typing up a press release so we can all send the same thing out.
Susieque Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Been thinking about how I can be actively involved this year - gutted that I can't ride with you at all I'm wondering if I can maybe sort something with the people at the Ace for the end of the run....so I'll get on the case if no-one else has already How about those of us in the South (ish) who can't be involved in the ride itself try and organise to meet at the Ace for a certain time? Remember last year there were only 3 of us and it was a bit of a non-event.Ducati Paul has already said somewhere in here that he'd like to try and do this, so if anyone else is up for it let me know. Any other bright ideas welcome too!!
Guest philgale Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 you could all meet us at the ace with a big banner and already collecting money.....if you can have a word with the owners and try and corner off a section for us when we get there, that would be handy
Susieque Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Thats the sort of thing I was thinking about Phil. Will definitely contact Ace if no-one else has, and see if they can help/do anything. Free coffee's all round maybe????
PMC Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Catherine and I might be up for Northampton to London leg (well half a leg). Not sure yet, but I'll PM Phil once we know for sure (and have a front brake!).

stelmer Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I have several problems.Biggest one is my bike. I have bought a lemon which needs some TLC. It's at Transit in York having it's last rights. Here's what needs doing on the GSX:All 3 brake calipers need cleaning and new seals fitting,Fork Seals are weeping,Exhaust is blowing at the collector,Needs an MOT,Inlets need replacing,Carbs need setting up,Detailed investigation work needs doing as engine might be wounded by it running very, very lean. It does seem to be rather hot when running. One coil looks to be weak, bad or this fault could be carb/mixture related. Inside 2 cylinders stay cold. Carb is a 2 pot into 4 jobby. Good news is chain and sprockets look to be decent. Bodywork is new. Electrics work but need tidying up.Allot of people have advised me to get rid. I've already bought 2 tyres, had the wheel bearings done and replaced most of the bodywork.
Susieque Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Thats a rather uphill task!! You thought of jogging the route instead????
