veracocha Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 More dealer apathy. Not long ago I commented on the lack of interest my local Honda dealer showed when I was after a new bike. It was enough for me to change allegiance and onto Yamaha. For a year I have enjoyed my Tracer 7GT but now I have more experience on a bike I fancy an MT09. Two calls to my closest Yamaha dealer have lead to no call-backs despite them saying they would. Two "contact us" attempts on their website still ignored. Disappointed I tried a dealer further away via their contact page. Fair play they called same day. I asked for comparative pricing to those on Autotrader, albeit a £90 premium to have it delivered. They said don't go to them (and save around £900) as they are "due to close". I pointed out that wouldn't matter as a new bike has two years warranty. He then said you should support your local dealer. He assured me of a call back once he had cleared pricing with his manager. anyway, no call-back. There's £10 grand cash in my pocket and no midlands Yamaha dealer wants to know. Let's try Suzuki and Kawasaki. 4 Quote
bud Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Crazy situation. Do they want you hanging on the door. Posting £20 notes through the letterbox? 2 Quote
Stu Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Yet when you just go for a browse they are pushy as hell and trying to get you to buy a bike 1 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Maybe email Yamaha UK? Email and phone number on this page https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/gb/en/service-support/general-support-enquiries/ 1 Quote

AstronautNinja Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Isn't great that dealers are so poor to get in touch, the local ktm place to me is on the blower the second I ask anything 1 Quote
Tinkicker Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 (edited) Unfortunately, dealers get 30 calls a day from dreamers that turn out to be time wasters. So they show little enthusiasm. Rock up in their showroom to have a close look at the bike, mention you travelled 20 miles to view it, and the reaction will be different. Not saying it's right, just that it is what it is, when timewasters no longer even have to shell out for the phone call. Even that 20p call would have weeded out 90% of them. Recall the vfr I thought was mine? If it was, definitely sale, but it wasn't. So I was a timewaster with good intentions. Still a timewaster though. Edited October 3, 2024 by Tinkicker 3 Quote
veracocha Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Popped in to one of these dealers today and their interest was a lot better face to face. Whilst unable to price match the dealer in Wigan they got to within £200 so I should be popping back in next week hopefully to make a purchase. 4 Quote

Saul Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 I haven't had the best of experiences with local dealers either over the phone or in person, especially the Triumph one, which is a shame as I was quite interested in getting one at the time. I had three bikes in mind, Trident 660, Kawasaki Z650RS and Honda CB750 Hornet. Triumph Dealer, I will never go there again, Kawasaki Dealer good as gold even though I didn't buy the bike and Honda Dealer again good as gold. I must say that I really like my local BMW dealer. Really friendly and helpful when I took my ancient E46 in for a recall. Even offered me a test ride on a R9T (bear in mind I was a scruff in a 22 year old car), shame I never had my gear with me. He was keen for me to come back for a test ride but I didn't feel right doing it as I had no intention of buying one. I didn't want to take out HP to buy and I never had the cash budget for a R9T. Local Indian, Benelli, BSA Dealer is an idiot, not that he had anything I really wanted. Local HD franchise is the same people as the Triumph dealer. 1 Quote
Tinkicker Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) Was looking to buy a brand new VFR750 back in the day. Went to my local dealer ( padgetts) and had a chat, agreed a cash price and at the end I said "cool, I will have the one in green". Salesman got a bit objectionable. " I have one in red, take it or leave it". Bye. Went to Castle Motorcycles, had the same chat, they matched the price and again I said I wanted the green one, as I saw one and loved the colour. He got on the phone. " No problem, it will be here for collection next week, pick which registration number you want from this list". Edited October 6, 2024 by Tinkicker 4 Quote
