JTDG Posted February 13 Posted February 13 So I have been riding for around 6 months now and at first my helmet was reasonably comfortable, however I have noticed it over the last 2 months or so has became really painful on my jaw and seems to let air in (like a lot to the point my face is freezing) even with all the vents closed never used to be such an issue but feel it has gotten worse. A friend did try my bike and wheelied it and hit the floor (while wearing my helmet) not sure if that’s caused it. I know helmets are meant to be snug, but I can’t fit the helmet on over a simple balaclava due to how tight it is. It’s LS2 strobe 2. I am thinking of getting a new one (ideally full face this time) but I also have a rather large head. Does anybody have any recommendations on full face helmet that do large sizes? I live pretty rural so it’s really difficult to try on a helmet. (Could travel 45 minutes on my bike to a Honda dealership) Ideally not breaking the bank! Quote
daveinlim Posted February 13 Posted February 13 My helmets are usually XL and many manufacturers will do much larger too. Have a look at sportsbikeshop and use them to see the various types of helmet on the market. Look at online reviews from the likes of Bennetts and you'll see that there are plenty of cheap helmets out there that can do a good job. Look for helmets that are 22.06 compliant. That's the new min safety level. Google motorcycles clothing and wherever you are and find a shop. Go try them on as every helmet brand fits a little different to the rest. Staff in shops are usually very helpful.a good fit is just, if not more important than anything else. All UK sold helmets have to meet minimum safety levels. You're on 2 wheels now. Maybe this is a nice opportunity to get out on your bike a bit. If the helmet is loud and cold and it's modular helmet I'd check carefully that it is actually closed right on your head. It might be too small. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted February 13 Posted February 13 If the first bit happened after the second part then yes, it’s junk. Sounds like the shell has deformed and oval it from the impact, it’s a thermoplastic type so the shell may look ok from a qyuick glance on the outside but really it’s fooked. after that accident you should of scrapped it there and then. sizes vary hugely from model to model let alone manufacturers, a shoie large maybe a ls medium and a caberg maybe a xcp….are you a round, square, oval or triangle head? Wider at the top or the jaw line? Long nose or jaw? So many types so difficult to say what is good or not for you? Id avoid online shops for this- go visit a huge stockist like Sportsbike shop or J and S Accessories to name a few. Hjc are very good and fitment is quite accommodating for most heads. personally I’m an ex hjc medium, arai medium/large but currently on a shoie medium but the small was just a bit too tight. Agv are just terrible for me bites at the front of my head and face… wife is shark xs and small hjc. daughter is ls2 large, hjc small or medium depending on model. you get the idea. New helmets only have to conform to these new regs from January 2024(in areas who use ECE helmet regs only – so no US or Japan) and even then, old ECE 22.05 helmets will still be legal. It's only new helmets on sale that will have to be 22.06 from that date on. 1 Quote

I think the helmet may be trash, the internal visor even hits my face (never used to) will probably take a drive out to them and see if they have anything in my size! Quote
RAYK47 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 some great deals on SportsBikeShop at the moment, i picked up a HJC carbon for 50% off. Here Quote
bonio Posted February 13 Posted February 13 You can buy from sports bike shop and return for free if it doesn't fit. Just keep the stickers on the visor, look after the packaging, and they'll take it back with no hassles. I think helmet city do the same. 1 Quote
