I bought a Kawasaki j300 with 4 previous owners and low 6000 ish miles, it has a full service history and is in excellent condition, however the battery does need charging a lot, I bought a new battery but it didn't make any difference. I looked through the receipts after I'd bought the battery and noticed a previous owner also bought one, it does charge ok because I checked and I've fitted a quick charge cable but if I leave it just for a couple of days, the battery is nearly drained. I've switched the alarm off and there's nothing else I can think of that could be draining the power. I don't think it helps that it isn't possible to turn the lights off when I'm riding (I do ride with lights on but in this case I don't have a choice). Also is it ok to leave my battery on charge as the charger switches itself off when the battery is full. Any ideas?

Thanks

Battery condition charger will be fine left on constant

Does sound like you have a drain though, I would be starting to check where it's going.

Search for parasitic drain on YouTube or Google and there will be plenty of vids to show you how to start looking with a multimeter.

Possible issues can be:

A parasite current

An hidden immobilizer a battery tender (low current charger) can be left plugged indefinitely.

If it's a smart battery charge, yes it can be left attached and the 'smart' bit will look after it. If it's an old fashioned one, i.e. it's got just a low/med/high rocker switch, then no you can't.

What type of charger do you have?

Try leaving the kill switch in the off position when the bike is stood. I was always recommended to do this with my Italian bikes for the same reason.

Id agree with bender, main culprit to isolate first would be the alarm, even switching and alarm off doesn’t entirely make it drain free, only completely disconnecting its feed will.

lights on while riding will make make little difference really IF the charging system is fine.

When you say it charges ok, how did u check it and what did you get?

id be checking over the whole rectifier, stator, wiring or grounds system.

scooters are actually quite power hungry as they need loads of good solid power for the cvt and extra gubbins, much like automatic car do.
