Simon Davey Posted March 7 Posted March 7 If I didn't have another 40 miles to get home, I would have ridden in, seen the £1.699 price, and ridden back out again. E5 is preferred, .gov even list it as recommended for my bike. 2 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Ouch! It's getting crazy. E5 at Knutsford Services is 180.9. Even in an emergency I'll ride the extra few miles on fumes into town. 1 Quote

bud Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) The good stuff is expensive there! The price of petrol varies a lot here. Especially if you fill up just as your heading out of the city. Two shell petrol stations a mile apart are 4p a litre different. Edited March 7 by bud 1 Quote
husoi Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I won't say how much petrol will cost me when I leave the UK.... 1 2 Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I never put E5 in my bikes. A guy who is a petrochemical engineer told me it has detonation retardant which means that car engines with knock sensors can advance the ignition to gain more power and economy. Bike engine management systems don't have that capacity. I mentioned to him that when I put E5 into the Bobber it felt just a wee bit less responsive. His answer about the retardant suggested it wasn't just me imagining it. I've never had anynissue with E10 even if the Bobber doesn't get used as much over the winter. 1 Quote

Basically the old normal fuel with 5% ethanol, Until the arrival of E10 in Sept 2021, I believe they started labelling the pumps E5 around 2 years prior to E10 arriving. I advise anyone running Carburettors to run E5, otherwise the you may have problems with the Carbs. 2 Quote

Cheers matey, the guy who rebuilt my carb's said the same thing, I've used it for quite some time, I also fill my old Mitsubishi Lancer with it. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I run E10 on carbs....no problems at all. Even in frosty weather it starts first time with a touch of choke. 2 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted March 9 Posted March 9 A lot of garages/mechanics will advise against it (mine does) if it deems necessary. At the end of the day a bike that’s compatible with E10 is RESISTANT to the ethanol, how long/short or where before it comes a victim to it varies. 1 Quote
