Stevehessleuk Posted Tuesday at 17:38 Posted Tuesday at 17:38 Hi everyone, a new biker at 53 did my cbt in April and struggled with the cones etc and after 20 minutes I thought should I just take helmet off and say there is a reason why I’ve never done it most of my family have been bikers, I’ve just always preferred fast cars when I was younger. I’ve always had an itch that should I do it and thought if I don’t do it now I’ll never do it. Anyway gave myself a slap and thought carry on , kind of got a bit better but no much. Then we broke for dinner and instructor said we was going out on the road I thought are you mad, you’ve seen me on the cones etc. I’d never been on a moped or motorcycle ever. We got out on the road and thought I was doing about 30mph which seems a lot faster on a bike, then heard instructor saying speed up as we are in a 40 zone, looked down and was going 25mph I’ve been driving since I was 18 , but motorcycles seem a different ball game. The last 20 minutes I thought I’m loving this , so got home and ordered a new Yamaha mt-125 and here she is. Picked it up last week and was still struggling with clutch and throttle and thought what have I gone and got myself into, been watching loads of tips on YouTube regarding the issues and finally getting there wish I’d done it years ago 6 Quote
Bender Posted Tuesday at 17:40 Posted Tuesday at 17:40 Welcome, better late than never Whilst YouTube does have uses, clutch and brakes need practicing and practicing and guess what practicing 2 1 Quote
Stevehessleuk Posted Tuesday at 17:56 Author Posted Tuesday at 17:56 Was terrified when I picked it up as I knew what problems with clutch and throttle I was having. A park was near the dealership so went in there 1st and it was hopping and dipping all over the place and thought what have I done it got to 3.45pm and thought if I don’t set off home I’m going to be in the rush hour traffic, had about 2 mile to go. The cars behind must have been laughing there heads off at me so I rang my mate who rides and explained to him what I was doing , he said your letting go of the accelerator and its engine braking . Then going back on the throttle, no wonder it’s jigging about all over the place . He said pull your clutch in when in traffic, I thought you just came on and off the throttle like a car to be fair the instructor never told me this what a difference that made then all I had to do was master the clutch, so did the 2 finger clutch and as my other fingers was in the way I didn’t have to pull the lever in all the way. Never got told that the clutch was less than an inch to change gear, but with all the tips on YouTube which has been a massive help. I’m finally getting it and don’t feel a failure Quote
