Peteinnit Posted Wednesday at 20:26 Posted Wednesday at 20:26 Hi all, Another day another problem (but not a major one ). My neutral light doesn't work when the engine gets hot, finding a replacement seems to be tricky and expensive, so wondering if they can be refurbished, or if there is an alternative part from a newer bike that might work. I've already had it out and cleaned it, but no change. My bike is a GSX 750W from '99, the switch has 2 copper(?) contacts on it, I have seen similar with 6 contacts which I assume are for bikes with a gear indicator on the cluster and am wondering if this would work as they seem to be cheaper.   Whilst I'm here, I've also got a tight spot on the chain, it's over 3 links and occurs in the same place each revolution, am I right in thinking it's the chain rather than one of the sprockets?  Cheers, Peter Quote
JRH Posted Wednesday at 21:13 Posted Wednesday at 21:13 I have a similar issue (seems to be a Suzuki issue) with the Bandit. However if the side stand is moved the neutral light comes on. Cleaning and lubricating the side stand switch solved the problem, for a while. Â The Bandit circuit and probably the GSX May be the same, so the side stand switch and the neutral switch are in the same circuit to inhibit starting and show the neutral. I know for the bandit Suzy issued a modified switch. i ended up getting a Healtech gear position indicator for the bike from a bike show as it was cheaper than a new switch from Suzuki. Not sure if that is still the case. 1 Quote
husoi Posted Thursday at 07:45 Posted Thursday at 07:45 The biggest problem with those switches, and that's for all brands and models, is the spring effect the contacts need to have. With time and heat they will become weaker and will stop working. Refurbishment without replacing the copper or brass contacts will be a short term fix.Aibe you will fix a replacement in AliExpress or Alibaba They will be the same as OEM but without the fancy bag or box Quote

RideWithStyles Posted Thursday at 09:47 Posted Thursday at 09:47 Yes the chain is starting to show signs for replacement soon. depending on the age, wear and material (steel)to the chain, the sprockets might go again if you was being a mega cheap bast*rd, As sprockets are cheap id would replace as default regardless. Normal steel ones are good enough. 1 Quote
Peteinnit Posted Thursday at 16:58 Author Posted Thursday at 16:58 Thanks for the part number and KLM link the only one I could find here was 140 quid. I've got a friend in Germany, so that should also save me the 35 euro postage . Also found one for 70 quid in the UK, so will get one.  The chain was a decent one, can't remember when I had it fitted, hasn't done as many mile as I would've expected but then it does normally get put away for the winter these days, pretty sure i replaced the sprockets as well. I'll have to keep an eye and put changing the lot, on the list.  Thanks again for all replies, much appreciated. Quote
