I recently bought a pair of Red Route jeans.

They also have the knee protectors in them.

Regular length were far too short for me (and I'm only 5'10"), so had to go long.

Really comfortable for about town riding, but I always wear the leathers on longer journeys.

Got a pair of Draggin jeans with the kevlar but not with the knox protectors and I've never been quite sure..I've got 2 pairs of cordura jeans with armour and they feel safe as houses...so it might be the body armour that makes the diffrence.

Having heard what happens when you get gravel in your road rash and how they have to scrub/rub your wound to get rid of it, i'd go for a broken bone and no gravel than gravel and no broken bone. :)

Actually I'd not go for either.

I wouldnt wear anything but leathers when on a bike..i know jeans look great and feel great but even armoured jeans dont give protection like an old cow

Ach I used to get a wire brush and dettol taken to my legs after playing football on reed ash pitches when I were a lad.

So what if my knees are all scarred, at least my bones haven't shot through the skin.

Hood - will not make to order :(

Draggin - we have local supplier, am yet to try on but hopeful :)

Richa - tried on 38", REALLY comfortable, but legs tight, shop getting in a 40" :)

Apparently Draggin have bigger thigh that Richa

OKay, further into my investigations:

I'm 36" waist, with big thighs, and only 5'8"

1. Hood - can't do custom fit, can't try on in shop. No good.

2. Richa - 38" waist OK, legs too tight. 40" waist too loose, legs still too tight. No good.

3. Draggin (Silverback) 38" - much better. Ideally get custom length. Only issue is the armour is velcro'd on to kevlar, seems a bit hit and miss and I think will fall off when walking about

4. Red Route - under investigation, seem to have custom leg lengths and pockets for armour

Questions:

1. Anyone got Draggin and knee armour that velcros on? Does it move about and fall off when you're off of the bike?

2. Anyone know how tight the thighs are on Red Route as compared to Draggin?

Thanks

Just phoned up Riderz who have stocked both jeans. They say armour does NOT stay in place on Draggin jeans, hence they stopped supplying.

He said loosest fitting Red Route are Ultimate Rider, these come with pockets for armour (armour included), have stretchy bits above the knees, so I've ordered 38" regular.

He said I can return if they don't fit, so nothing to lose except postage

Will keep all posted

Like I said before mate, I bought Red Route but found the regular to be too short for my liking.

I am only 5'10", and so went for the long.

I really like wearing them for shorter journeys.

You're 5'10" and went for long (34")

I'm 5'8" and went for regular (31")

I usually get 30" leg. If I got 34", they'd be too long when I walk about ...

I know I'll be sitting down on bike, but when I do that I'll have boots on anyway

If they're the wrong size I'll get them exchanged :D

Thanks

I personally found the Draggin's to be an uncomfortable fit! Too tight on the thighs and not long enough for my waist size, plus they pinched a lot in the cock area.

I ended up going for Triumph kevlar jeans in my local(ish!) bike shop - nice and comfy with a wide leg.

Additional: I sometimes ride in ordinary jeans with a pair of articulated Delkevic motocross knee and shin protectors on underneath - very comfy and only £15 online.

You can also get like a "string vest" type of thing from Hein Gerike, has various bits of protection, wear it under normal jeans.

Update - the RedRoute arrived. They don't look quite as nice as they have zips at the ankles (although handy) and flexible knees (again handy). But armour is in place. Seem just as robust as Draggin, and a good fit, nice big legs.

So - in summary.

Richa - look best, like normal jeans. But tight fit, and don't seem that robust, very comfy

Hood - not sure as I can't try them on, and need to order online, but got good reports

Draggin - Armour isn't held on securely, their support advised me to glue it to the kevlar! But fit was good. If armour isn't an issue, they'd be good. Red route - build quality good, armour included. All good, only issue is they look like bike jeans, not jeans.

All seem to have around the same amount of kevlar ... not much in it.

In the end I got these in a 38" (a 36" may have fitted)

Nice and cheap with armour included - £106 delivered

Red route do other styles that may look better (e.g. http://www.riderz.co.uk/product_info.ph ... cts_id=651), but I was advised to go for the Ultimate Rider

Terry at Riderz was helpful, spoke on phone for ages about jeans, measured legs etc. Would recommend

Hunt over

Oh yeah, also have pocket for hip armour, (not included). The knee armour (included) seems pretty good. Not as big as my RST trousers, but big and good enough, and in pocket so wont budge. Can be replaced anyway

Cheers matey!

I've only seen a few different makes of reinforced bike jeans in the flesh and although I'm no fashion-trend following blokey, they did look a bit like 'old-men's-jeans!'

I'll go out now with your info on-board and see what I can fit into!

Once again, muchos gracias, señor!

I only saw one pair of draggin jeans that looked like something I'd choose to wear

All the others just look like no-particular-fit jeans with style not a factor at all :crybaby:

Nice write up mate... Might have to treat myself to some Red Routes soon.... Want another leather Jacket as well, and a new helmet to go with it.... Man I need to win the lottery!!

No mate - only Draggin ones I tried were the silverbacks, I looked at a few

BUT as far as I can tell ALL of the Draggin jeans are missing pockets for armour. If you want armour, and don't want to have to remove it when you get off of the bike (it WILL fall out otherwise), then they're no good. I'd only get Draggin if a) armour isn't required b) you don't mind taking it out at your destination or c) you don't mind glueing it in place or making your own mods

Ahh right, thats a bit of a pain. On the red route ones can you detach the armour if necessary or is it sewn in? Love the look of the roed routes, its just that zip that bugs me!
