Blade will start, cos Honda have fixed it!

Green with a pink stripe (two like this) and gawd .. I can't remember the other one...

If I'm right, they are out of the ECU up in the top right. Far right of the plug, last 3 or 4...

Blimey, that's one heck of an underground map!

You'd think so. At least I have something I can trace back now. Use a bit of nous and I should be ok. Just gonna be a little time consuming, at least there looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel!!

 


Oh, what colour was the connector you found the shorts on? Green or blue(maybe black, the manul says "bl")?




Maybe when you get home from work, you could try disconnecting injector 3's wiring. It will fart abit if it starts, but, it will show the fault up. The injector has a solenoid winding in it, which could go short so.... maybe.

There is a black plug into the ECU and a white plug. The shorts are in the white plug.

 


Could the white plug be light green maybe? (thats what it says on the drawing is all)

Right then, tonight i have.....


Stripped it back so I can get to everything. Have established that the two green and pink ones are definately ground wires. Once i could see the ground point, there they were!! This still leaves one. So starting at pulse cam generator, short. move further down loom, disconnect plug. Check the pins, two are earthing. One is yellow and white other is green with silver spots evry 30mm or so. Trace yellow one to pulse coil and a red plug. Spilt plug and check coil for short (am assuming if it broken, it'll short between two pins, it didn't). So as it stands I have it earthing on the yellow wire (looks like it has white stripe down it). Which if i read the diagram correctly is pulse coil.

So either, the coil is down or it has broken down within the loom. The loom itself doesn't look like that has happened...


OH the joys of electrics!! :D


Incidentally, the red plug was very oily. I wonder if grease monkey WD'd it ...

Fault code indicating pulse coil fault, and now a short in the pulse code wire, sounds like its adding up nicely. thinks its a case of first looking at the wire everytime it turns a corner or goes through a mounting point to see if the insulation has worn away.


Might be worth unplugging both ends and then doing the earth check from the pulse coil end, just to confirm its a short.

Well.. a bit more prodding and poking with the multi meter... my conclusion is... not a short but a faulty ignition pulse generator. Engine won't run if it is faulty. At least it is not an expensive part, or difficult to change.

Well, that didn't work :(


In desperation I have stripped bike of its fairing and individually checked all relays etc. Looking more and more like it really could be the ECU.

£752.00 from Honda :shock:

If you change the ECU you will need to re-program the keys. If you but an American ECU these don't have the security chipping that the Euro ones do.

E-Bay usually has these available at less than Honda prices.

found a used one on fleabay (american) including entire harness and rectifier etc. £105. Bloke at Honda agreed the usa ones should work too. Here's hoping

Well, used ECU has arrived.


doesn't work, well the fuel pump won't prime, which suggests the HISS is working .... I tried disconnecting the HISS, but no, so there must be something in the loom refusing to work cos of the absence of HISS in the ecu (americans don't use it)

fortunately the geyser sent the entire wiring loom including ignition loom, all the relays and the rectifier.

the plan is, swap the loom over tomorrow, cos this one won't have the HISS loom in it. Hopefully that'll do it!!
