  1. They can do this because there's a phantom store (cough-cough-store 036-cough-chough). It's a bit naughty but sadly legal...

    El Bastardo

I dunno which new Volvos you've been looking at buddy but my 2013 V40 is not particularly good! Tank - definitely not. Flimsy... Oh yes. Do I regret my purchase? Absolutely. To the OP - I'm guessing it was the high pressure line on the rack that fractured. My V70 did the same. I replaced the part but the steering was still heavy and groaned a lot. My MOT guy suggested using some power steering conditioner which worked an absolute treat. Lightened up the steering and got rid of the nasty noises.
  3. It's difficult to fall off a car I suppose.

    Petrol valve?

Erm... No. The fuel would still have to navigate it's way round the float valve. Prime position just bypasses the vacuum operated part of the fuel tap.

    Petrol valve?

Can't say I ever needed to use the prime position in normal operation - only if I'd left the bike for a couple of weeks outside in the summer and the fuel had evaporated.
  6. 9 days to Christmas and I'm down to 5 rellies. Ho, ho, f**king ho.
  7. Tha' were a lodda moneh in maah deh.
  8. ...Unless you're following a tractor towing a massive load of hay bails, one of them falls off the back and you get squashed.
  9. I agree most strongly with this statement.
  10. I've had an RST 2-piece for 5-6 years. It's still absolutely fine with no broken zips or anything despite how much stuff I've jammed in the pockets over the years. The jacket sees everyday use with the jeans getting weekend use. My only gripe with them is the length of the jeans - they come up a bit short on me as I'm 32 waist/34 leg which means the knee sliders don't sit quite right. Otherwise I'm we'll impressed with them.
  11. It's a maybe from me at the mo - might be going to Kent to visit the family.
  12. True but the one that he used was one that he "found in a skip at work", he would have had it regardless... The fact that he took it home and doctored it up so that it would be more easily concealable makes me raise my eyebrow. Add to that the probability that it was hidden when the firearms cert guys came to inspect his cupboard... Surely the only reason for adapting a sawn-off would be to take it out and about. Gives more weight to the prosecution as it ticks all three boxes as an offensive weapon - Made, adapted and intended for the use of causing physical harm.
  13. Come on Al, you're letting the side down. Please be more careful with your parentheses in future!
  14. Hmm, yeah, maybe. I do hope so as I know a few nice underground places in your neck of the woods.
  15. Asked and answered.
  16. This is indeed something of which I'm aware. However, seeing as it's a garage project, losses aren't necessarily the end of the world. Besides, when we go back to rolling black-outs we'll all have an excuse to go and play in the shed!
  17. I'm really enjoying this thread (possibly because I'm a little sad). It begs the question of why should we use mains when 12V is a real alternative. A battery and an appropriate PV array and your set. Just a thought... Would it be viable to use micro relays on a ring operated by a remote switch bank or would that be hugely wasteful on the juice?
  18. I've never had a computer, only the card thing! Talking of smokers, on my final open water dive my PADI instructor beat me to the surface by about a minute. When I bobbed to the top he already had a fag in his mouth and was being passed a glass of pastis by one of the boat hands. Out of interest, do you dive with a GUE group or with some chummies? Can't say I'd particularly enjoy being told what I can and can't do - just like the biking, it's about fun and doing something I get a thrill from, not an "I'm better than you because I follow the rules" type of thing. Saying that though, I could use a nitrox qualification so I can get the gas...
  19. Very interesting Mark... I'll be honest when I say my PADI card is now just a pass to hire gear. I did open water and immediately had every intention of doing all the courses - I haven't done a single one! When I lived in Kent I had a couple of dive buddies and we'd just nip along, get our kit and do what we wanted. There's not a lot you can't learn by having a read and putting things in to practice. This was mainly due to the high prices of the PADI courses and blindingly obvious all day "learning" sessions which were, frankly, mind numbing. GUE sounds like it'd be worth a look - just my cup of tea.
  20. You'll have to let us know how bright those higher power jobbies are.

    Kids

I will never forget what an ex's cousin said after his first run out with his dad. He said "It made my balls go tingly and my willy go hard."
  22. Good old Ozzie. I save £3.5k on my stamp duty! I always said he was a good 'un.
  23. Dude, just get on with it! I love it but can't do it as much as I want because the dorris didn't take to it. That's why I just hire gear as and when I need it (mainly on hols). It can get quite expensive doing it that way and I've found dedicated dive holidays get a bit samey after a few days so tend to work a couple of dive days in when I'm away. I hugely recommend doing your PADI open water abroad. I did it in Cambodia (Scuba Nation in Sihanoukville), it was really well run, ultra cheap and the best waters/fish/general sea life I've ever seen. Taster sessions are really cheap if you can get one on Groupon or something. Sky diving works out quite expensive compared to scuba - there's a lot of training up-front to get independence. I gave it up quite early on because of the expense and general "there's a cloud, no jumping today" thing. Plus you get loads more time actually doing it. I want to go diving now, thanks a bunch!

    Water in the tank!

I think that is a good idea - it's certainly what I'd do! You might need to do a few cycles of bowl draining, switching on so the pump works, drain, pump, etc, etc until fuel comes out. It's worth a pop before you take it all apart. You might want to replace the fuel filter while you're there, if you have water in the tank, there may be other nasties which have clogged it up.

    Re-chroming costs

Don't be a wuss, just pop down to B&Q for a few dust masks and some tissue thin overalls and you're all set.
