  1. Yep - deep breath, relax and do what you do every day. Good luck!
  2. A small and very dim light just flickered far away in a corner of my brain... You've not got a vacuum operated tap on that have you? I had one on my GPZ900 but I thought they phased them out in the late 80's because they tended to flow best while you popped in to the newsagents to buy some fags.
  3. Didn't somone ask this recenty? I think a hairdrier, WD40 and label remover were suggested. Just make sure they're not under the laquer before you start!
  4. There should be two feeds from the tank to the tap - main and reserve. There should also be a breather at the back left hand side of the tank just above the seam that dangles down beneath the swing arm. Having siad that though, yours is a couple of years younger than mine and your pics only show the right hand side of the bike so I don't know if you've got the tap integral in the tank!
  5. Just been and checked mine... There are two hoses connected, the one from pic 1 goes to the right hand side of the air box and a second one (oil breather) coming from the crank to the back of the air box. I also got rid of the carb warming system on mine to make getting the carbs in and out a bit easier.
  6. I'm not big on old metal but that is one tasty looking animal!
  7. Nice one getting rid of the emissions rubbish - I like the blanking plates you used! The pipe from pic 1 should locate in one of the holes on the right hand side of the air box. The vacuum lines are correct, the blank bolt is the "master carb" so doesn't have a take-off. Just use the four nipples you get in your carb balancer and all will be fine! I don't remember having the T-piece in mine so a scottoiler sounds about right. Just as a note, you will need to plug up the spare holes in your air box and then play about with your main jets and floats a bit but it's amazing the difference getting rid of that crap does! Did you take the grille things out of the air box while you were at it? Great work buddy!
  8. Lovely bit of tigging there mate - something I've always wanted to try but never got round to!
  9. Same here. From the other thread... You should have the bigger jets on the inside.
  10. I had exactly the same problem with mine when I got it, once finally started it needed to warm up for ages before I could even look at the throttle. Mine has an OEM filter with aftermarket end can and emissions delete. I gave the carbs a good old service, reset all the screws to standard and played about with the main jets and floats - off the top I think I ended up with 160, 170, 170, 160 and the floats 1mm lower. I'll dig out my notebook and correct myself if I'm wrong.
  11. Can you even get standard hoses for these now? I slapped HEL lines on both of mine this year and if I'm being honest, I can't really tell much difference... Carb cleaning isn't to bad a job, just do one at a time and make a note of how many turns in/out various screws are.
  12. I can't really see from your fist pic bud, it's a bit fuzzy - what's the bolt you've got the hanger fixed on with? It should be a hex but it looks like a flat. If you're worried about the oily stuff in the can you can always chuck a bit of caustic soda through it to clean it out. At least you'll be able to tell if you're burning any oil from now on. I take it you've given the exhaust gasses a bit of a sniff too. How's it running now anyhow? I guess you might be a bit lean if you've pinched a can from a 9.
  13. May I be the first to say how frankly excellent you look with a pipe on the go. Shitty luck about the stand - do you reckon you'll be able to weld it up? Same goes for the mudguard.

You don't say what colour your plug is when you take it out. I know it's only a short distance but any colouring is a big indicator. Sounds like a cumulative thing if it consistantly happens on the way back...
  15. Ha! Twunt...
  16. Well I like a good muff... (sorry) I've used Oxford heated grips for years and not had any issues whatsoever. I've certainly not had any problems with battery drainage. There's been discussion around this topic before. I think the conclusion was along the line of: grips are great but only really heat your palm at speed, muffs are great at speed but can get soggy and don't always look the best. Maybe both?
  17. I did an engine change some years ago to my then nissan bluebird using my Dads garage but I ran out of time & had to get the rented engine hoist back to avoid another days rent anyhoo this meant the old engine wasn't hoisted into the boot etc so I dug a big hole in the nearby lawn & rolled old engine in to it. My Dad was away at the time & after I'd rolled the turf back you'd never tell, it's still there to this day, never told my Dad O:-) Absolute quality! In hundreds of years time Tony Robinson will probably dig it up and they'll be able to do some sort of DNA reconstruction of your face or something.
  18. The drivers I am particularly fond of are the ones who see me screamin' up the outside lane ... and then swerve out in front of me at the last minute and floor the gas, just to save themselves from having to dab the brake, then overtake the slow-moving vehicle in front of them. Or the Christian motorists who fervently adhere to just a bit under the speed limit and/or stay in the outside lane for longer than is necessary.
  19. The driver of the "lintels and aggregates" lorry on the A14 this morning who managed to stretch an overtake to 7 - yes, seven miles. Nob.
  20. +1 (again). You've set the bar high my friend, break out a few more sheckles and get new stuff where you can. You don't want to be forever seeing some shitty old nuts and bolts and cursing yourself do you...
  21. There's an ad on pootube somewhere of it in action. It's a two part spray kit and not available in the UK (yet...). The video gives the impression that it stiffens the material on which it's applied which would be useless for us lot as I expect it would crack very easily. Still a fun product to have a go with.
  22. Did you remember to do the zip up?
  23. One with a Sopwith Camel would be quite good.
  24. I've got to be honest old bean, that doesn't look half bad! You off down to Brighton at the weekend then
