Odd thing is. the mechanic took it out for a few miles and it was fine. So he's going to take it on a longer ride later on (about 20miles) to try get the problem to appear. if nothing happens i'll replace the coil anyway

There is this thing called a steering wheel which turns the car, unlike a bike which is turned by an unmentionable topic and prayers. But seriously, just drive around a car park for a little while and get used to using foot for clutch. There's not many tips i can give as i went car then bike. Just remember you have less visibility of other road users than on a bike so always do a shoulder check.

Weeeeell sorry i've not replied been very busy. Long story shortened.. Riding home on tuesday got 1/2 down A12 (kelvedon) and bike cut out coasted to a layby 1/4 mile away doing about 20 with my hazards on seeing as it was pitch black now i called the RAC (First time ever) he came out within 20 minutes and after playing around with the bike he took the (what i think was) ignition coil out and cleaned it with something put it back in and it ran good as gold. So i jumped back on and he followed me up the A12 by which time it was still going well. Fast forward to yesterday riding to college and same problem occurs.. i'm gonna be late so i keep the revs high choke on a little and i manage to get there with a little effort. After i left (3 hours later) the bike was fine for about 2-3 miles then issues again.. I rode it down to my garage and dropped it off and asked the mechanic to have a ride when he gets time. Might be the lazy way to fix it but i'm happy to change/fix things but diagnostics? I ain't got time for that I'd be there all year. Just waiting on a phone call to hopefully tell me it's something small like a spark plug needed changing. Anyhoo, thanks for the advice =)

I'm usually wrapped up in thermals and a thick jacket and i still feel the cold so a valid point! Will order it tonight hopefully get it friday.

Blimey, never knew it would cause issues at that sort of temperature I'll order some of that stuff i linked earlier tonight i think. glug a blob into my engine and it might just help in general.

Hey Shirl. I found (and some others on here i'm sure) the Mod 1 is the harder of the 2 tests. The only way you will get better and pass is to practice. Might be worth getting some cones (or something visible) and go to an empty carpark on a sunday and practice for a few hours. Manual moving - push bike so center of balance is middle so you're not struggling with the weight, straighten handle bars, push back to edge of the cone, look left and right then carry on, turn straighten and then at the right time turn again before crossing the "path" check left and right and move the bike into the "garage" simple. stand next to the bike do not get on untill instructed. Slalom - Easy enough with practice, High revs and play with the clutch don't look at the cone you passed, or the one you're going to, look at the next one and the bike should go good as gold. figure of 8 - bit harder, go around and as soon as you pass the middle -->8 turn your head right the other way, same again once you pass back around, naturally the bike will go where you're looking (obviously you still have to steer somewhat) again, high revs play with the clutch and if you're going to fast use the REAR brake only. keep going untill he says to stop. Slow riding - Easy one to do, just look far ahead and keep it slow, if you're going to fast rear brake. U-turn - One most people fail on. I understand why, i took ages to get this down. You need to look RIGHT over your shoulder and turn the bike slowly. Go quite a way down (you have something like 5-10 meters to play with) this gives you plenty of time to straighten up when you come around. You don't have to pull off and immediately turn, take your time just don't forget to keep revs high. and don't pass that line. speed test - Simple one for checking you can hit the right speed. no way to fail unless you fall off. emergency stop - I think someone on here failed this the other day. Take it steady get used to how the bike feels at speed and what it sounds like at 31mph so you can FOCUS on the instructor. when he waves his board, off the throttle squeeeeeze the front brake untill you feel it bite (WITH ALL FOUR FINGERS!) then pull it in slowly enough so you don't lose control, at the same time gently apply the rear brake, not to tough you don't want to lose control or skid (fail town that is) do NOT pull the clutch in untill you have practically stopped you will stop slower also i believe it is a minor. put your foot down once you stop if you stalled it no biggy start the bike up first gear shoulder checks and move on back to the instructor unless he has walked to you. hazard avoidance - My worst enemy i found. It's hard to get the right speed up and move at the same time but after about an hour of practice i nailed it. Get your speed up and come toward the cone at a SLIGHT angle, push down on the right bar and the bike should lean past the cone as soon as you pass it push on the left and the bike will straighten up. stop at the designated point and await further instructions. I don't think i've missed any, nudge me if i have. Things to remember: -Shoulder checks EVERYWHERE, you pull off, both shoulders. You get on the bike, both shoulders. you park the bike, guess what... BOTH SHOULDERS. i might be going over the top but better to check than him fail you for "No observation". -Be calm, hard to do on the test but breath and chill, count to 5 and you'll relax a little stiff muscles make slow manouvers hard as hell. -High revs on slow manouvers and play with the clutch you'll be a low smoother and more steady - Don't use the front brake on slow manouvers you'll be jumpy and potentially fall off / put your foot down - When listening to the instructor lift your visor up and keep your RIGHT foot on the brake your LEFT on the floor and BOTH HANDS on the bars - Smile and shake the instructors hand, they're people make them feel like you appreciate their time and effort, they might just ignore that little mistake.. Good luck and practice =) You'll get it eventually.

Haha Not to bad, For a first attempt Omellette was nice, chicken things had gotten a little soft lost it's crispy ness. confit was flavourful and raw veg was raw veg Rice was a let down it had gone a bit hard overnight. I'll try again some time but might practice before hand first.

Probably about 5 this morning. Though was raining.
-
Will try that. and post results.
-
Also any suggestions on where to get some? So far i'm only getting fleabay, and amazon. Gonna give local auto place a ring they have odd bits like that.
-
Was just plodding along this morning when it happened. I'll order some of that fuel stuff and give it a go.
-
Think there is 2. as last time when it went the outer 2 cylinders stopped. I will see how it warms up later and check the coil. If it plays up again i'll order a new one. Is a coil tricky to replace? Dont mind taking fuel tank off as i need to put heated grips on and that will make doing that easier
-
Well i have to ride to my mates tonight and then home from his, so will have plenty of time to tell. Only just had a replacement coil stupid question as tbh before it broke i never knew about coils So is there just the 1 or 2? if so it could be the other needs changing to.
-
I had let the engine warm up for about 5-10 minutes and had been riding for 10 minutes when it happened, It wasn't overly cold around my area this morning could it still be a cause? http://www.amazon.co.uk/SILKOLENE-SYSTE ... B006MVFV46 This the stuff? is it worth using anyway to help the bike?
-
Ok i've had this happen before. Long story short, Riding down A12 this morning at about 60 cause traffic sucks. Decided to overtake, opened throttle to move out and got nothing from the engine, pulled back in dropped a gear and revved, nothing but a few splurty revs. So thankfully near a slip road i pulled into the marks tey petrol station. Got off, filled up (£5 not even 1/3 a tank) started up shook the bike a little and set off. Bike was absolutely fine. Now when this happened last time it was my coil, guy who checked for me (came out from local garage) touched the down pipes to see if they were hot, 2 of them were not. So i decided to try this today and they were all hot.. Now the only other thing i can think it might be is a slight fuel blockage? That cleared once i added more fuel and shook the bike around. In which case will i need to empty the tank and clean it? Any suggestions appreciated =)

Update. Definately going better (minus the crap weather) new tyres now and i often have some music going in my left ear which makes me worry less like moo says it helps relax instead of over thinking!

DAS starts saturday! Mod 1 and 2 Passed!!
Glorian replied to a topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Practice makes perfect =) As said before, take it slow and build your speed up. When you do your emergency stop just do it slowly (not to slowly mind) roll off throttle. grip the front brake and apply untill you feel it bite then slowly add more pressure while gently applying the rear brake. Do not grab your clutch untill you're about to stop, additional braking so you'll stop slower. It's not a fail if you stall it only a minor. Good luck for monday! -

Ouch, glad you're uninjured and the instructor was decent with you about it Hope he had crash bars installed for just such an occasion. -
Might be worth re-doing the CBT anyhow or some training so she gets used to riding with a geared bike under a qualified instructor.
-
Cheers for the advice folks =) Made some battered chicken, prawns, egg fried rice (Egg rolls were not very easy wish i had sushi rice haha) a vegetable side and few bits of raw corn a rolled omellette and a bit of soy sauce in a pot for dips. Hope it tastes good tomorrow but this was a lot harder than i thought more practice is definately needed!
