  1. Isn't cadwell just lovely in the rain! It's one of the best places on earth on a warm sunny day, but wet and cold it's miserable place.
  2. I keep my bikes in a shed that is located in the dog run, you've got to get past 7 (yes seven) Labradors to get to the bikes, then get back out again, I'd bet Charlie would have bits off you before you managed it! Falling that, chain it up with a good chain and lock to a good ground anchor.
  3. Take the bike back, the chain and sprockets should have been replaced if they are bad enough to cause a knocking, there must be a stiff link in the chain, they will of ridden the bike. The cold start issue should fe sorted, but these sort of things can be a pain to sort. As for the mpg, when you start to open the throttle fully it will drop quickly!
  4. Put a new plug in it firstly, always start there with a 2t crosser. After that I'd look at the main jet in the carb and perhaps drop it a clip or two to start with, if not then a smaller main jet.

    Oil level

Surely the crankshaft runs in the oil anyway??? There is the danger of hydraulic lock if you have too much oil and it forces too much past the rings, a little too much will usually just be burnt off.
  6. I would if I knew how! If it's got carbs and wheels I'm all over it, but this computer stuff is beyond me! It's not much to look at, a ratty black and silver 2000 model zx6r, bought it cheap a year ago to use as a track bike, sorry Hoggs, but it is destined to be thrashed and crashed to save my pretty gsxr from that fate!
  7. So, my mate came and helped me put the replacement lump in yesterday morning, and over the course of the weekend I have been connecting it back up, and it has just fired up first time! Just need to bleed the coolant now, put a new chain and sprockets on, then put it's clothes back on, then it needs a damn good thrash to make sure it's track ready as am at cadwell on Easter Monday.
  8. Don't know if anyone is interested but no limits are running this on 25th April, at £139 it's a good price for Donnington Park, think I'm going!
  9. Have a look at the a racefit systems, not sure whether they have what you want, but they are very nice handmade systems, the welding is beautiful!

    New bike new chain

Could you honestly tell the difference of that very small change? I'm betting it was in your head or you are Rossi in disguise!
  11. Drain the tank and put fresh fuel in it before you do anything else, fuel goes off and if there is any water in the tank it will be coming through first. The engine is only firing because it is burning the carb cleaner - just line spraying easy start into it.
  12. Slowly getting there, obviously the exhaust header studs and nuts are a ball ache, the nuts on the two center down pipes have corroded and started to disintegrate and I can't get anything to grip them tight enough, cutting equipement will be used tomorrow!
  13. Finally got round to fetching the zx6 from my in laws garage and am starting the engine swap. First gripe, why the hell do they feel the need to hide a nut behind the horn bracket making it near on impossible to get a spanner on!

    Germany....

Indeed.. the germans know a thing or two about racism. and wont stand for it. standing idly by.. they did that before and it caused all sorts of bother. They never stood idly by, they voted him in by believing the propogander that was continuously peddled, at one point during his dictatorship, during the persecution of the Jews and the quest for The Arian Race across Europe, he still had 97% of the public backing him. It was Britain and France that stood idly by in the beginning that allowed it to happen.
  15. Any good bearing brands? All balls are good brand, wheel bearings are easy to do, head race are a bit harder as you need the front end out before you get to them.
  16. Another hater of instant gasket, it's the mechanical equivalent of a window fitters silicone sealant - just wrong! I always take pictures on my phone as it take things to pieces, it really does help getting it back together! Search the net too for a spread sheet that will allow you to fill out all the values of clearances (actual and required), it will tell you what shim size you need to correct the clearance on each valve.
  17. Whenever I've replaced a master cylinder I've used a second hand cbr600 one, simple, reliable and parts are easy to get.

    Dead Ninja

It's not the first one I've done, pretty handy with the spanners as rode mx for years and got quite good at rebuilding engines. One of the exhaust studs is snapped on the replacement engine, will either get it out or spot weld the exhaust onto it! Don't expect the bike to last too much longer with track use and mrs going to use once she passes her test.
  19. We have one on our L200, it's an old P reg plate, the truck is a 2008, but is battered enough to look p reg! I wouldn't spend any money one one (the one on the truck belongs to the mrs from way back), I think it's probably cheaper to change my name to match my number plate!

They do that choke thing, I had a m reg one years back, it did the same, and the head gasket did go on that! I'm sure there will be a few sweary words and threads from me as I swap the engines over, then it will get thrashed as hard as possible on the track by way of punishment. I've not actually riden this bike, I bought it cheap as a track bike (it's road legal though), my father in law has used it and I had to use my gsxr, then the gearbox went and he bought a gsxr600 for himself and left me with the repair!
  21. Way too fast for a lane like that, was always going to end badly. I'm not a slow rider by any stretch of the imagination (some of my mates don't tell me when they're going out now!), but at least I think I've got enough sense to keep it down on a road like that.

    Dead Ninja

I've read the whole thread, no ideas as to what's up, but as I have a J1 zx6 that has a knackered gearbox, I've got a replacement engine that I'm needing to put in sometime very soon, I've gained lots of info as to problems I may find. Thanks for the inadvertent help Hoggs!
  23. I did this whilst riding once. I think I was tying to reset the odometer or something and all of a sudden I was doing 50 in a 30! That's just standard riding isn't it!
  24. It sounds suspiciously like an air leak somewhere, are the exhaust headers seated and tightened properly?
  25. Moto GP needs to be seen and heard to appreciate, I've been to 500gp and moto gp at donnington, but I just do not fancy watching at Silverstone, it's great to ride, but just too big and too far away from the action for my liking. And living in lincolnshire, I get treated to Eurofighters dogfighting pretty much everyday of the week, so no need for that on a weekend too!
