Absolutely not. There is no need whatsoever to have sequential gear change at all. I have a Fazer FZS600. If I do a traffic light gran prix I do 1st then 2nd. Bear in mind I can do 70mph in 2nd. After I reach some speed and I am far away ahead I just go from 2nd to 4th or even 5th. Doing sequential change makes your ride too aggresive. The same is even more valid for downshifting. I see what you mean and that’s a perfectly good way to ride but I know that if I did 70 in second my instructor would have boxed my ears. With proper clutch and throttle control, sequential gear changes are perfectly smooth. It also helps demonstrate good control of the bike. Lastly as with my bike unless I let the clutch out just a little after dropping more than one gear it just won’t do it. Might be the same going up but I don’t know always use clutch less change on the way up after 2nd.

Did that on my mod 2, stalled it, still got a pass. I asked my instructor about locking up the back wheel and he said something like "Don’t worry about locking the back wheel up as you should be going up and down the box in sequence right now anyway. Only time you should drop more than one gear is if you have to suddenly stop. Traffic lights don’t count as that is bad anticipation." At the speed you’re doing Ben unless you try and go from top at 70MPH to bottom or something silly like that there is little to no danger of locking up the back wheel even if you dump the clutch (just let it out) As for when to change, an easy was to think about it is. If the bike is screaming change up if you need more power change down, I don’t even look at my rev counter anymore all of the engine noise.

This is a review in progress. Good points Picked mine up for £1000. Mates rates so got a load of spares but can get a nice package for £1200 - 1300 on ebay. Even with 32000 on the engine (42 on the clock) still goes very well. Aftermarket straight though exhaust and Beowulf can with a K&N in the box to replace escaped horses. Max so far is 137 on the clock so about 130 - 135 at the back wheel. Plastics seem to have aged well few scraps but no fading or brittleness. Handles very well, not much to compare it to but quite flickable. Give a lot of new bikes with all their fancy tech a fright. Bad points. Like a lot of Kawasaki's about as much get up and go in the mid-range as my gran and she’s dead. Great at 4000 to 6500 dies off and really does not come back in till 8500/9500 when it suddenly takes off with a lurch. Quite heavy compared the modern bikes of this size about 230KG when wet probably 235 - 240 with a full tank. The front mud guard is a weak point the snap where there bolted on and rattle at slow speed. Plastics are very hard to come by, in fact over all original parts are not that common. The current review in MCN is rather harsh considering its 20 years old. If you want a cheap bike to put a grin on your face every time it’s hard to pass up. If buying one check the breaks specifically the callipers, split them and look for corrosion in and around the pistons. You will also have consider re-coning the suspension front and rear, if it’s not been done. Other than that there basic speed machines that beg to be thrashed.

I should be so lucky not only do I have to take an additional test to get my CPC I will probaly end up working for min wage for the first couple of years so no freebies. Might go for my ADR or HIAB or something as that counts towards it dosent it.

Heres the thing though in general its CAR drivers are the problem bikers/van drivers/truck drivers tend to be in my expriance slightly better. As to retesting or the like, no not needed, all they need to do is introduce a CPC style system. Every 5 years you have to prove you are able to drive on modern roads and handle modern cars. If you fail your assesment or have had 3 fault accidents you have to get 5 hours additonal training. If you dont want to do this say £30 for the assesment £25 per hour for the 5 hours training you get £1000 added to your insurance. if you do comply you get £200 off your insurance or if that is greater than your insurance you get your next assesment for free. Along with protected NCD for the next 5 years.

Yeah hate riding on the bypass. Why does every tom dick and harry sit in the outside lane doing 50ish, 55 if your lucky, then never move over even in light traffic? Pretty standard behaviour on our roads I'm afraid, if they're really taking the piss I'll just move over to the inside lane and go past them. As we've had many discussions about it before on here it's not illegal to "undertake". What also pisses me off is when you're joining a motorway/dual carriage way and the car in front does 40mph on the slip road!! I do either with a blast of the horn or slip the clutch and red line it

Made up something similar for a mate new garage I was helping him put in. Made them out of 5mm box it was just a U made out of 3 bits of box cut at 45 degrees. Made two for each bike mesured the wheebase of his 3 bikes and put them in so he parked with the wheels inbetween the U. Oxford chains front and back. Took me all of 10 mins to make each U and he got £50 off his insurance because of the new garage and extra security. Not exactly cost effective but its was more about peace of mind.

Technically this is the Nob of yesterday. Fliting though stationary traffic on the Edinburgh bypass, white fiesta van tries to block me, then I notice he is in a Scottish ambulance service vehicle. Lucky the guy in the outside lane moved over to let me though or I would have had his badge number but quick.
