1. Go try throwing a milkshake over a person wearing a burka I guarantee you time will be spent inside.

Regardless of people's opinions this growing idea that it's OK to assault someone just because you don't agree with them is just wrong, so is the growing acceptance of it, we have already had one mp murdered, what's acceptable next, throw bacon at a jew, non kosher chicken at a Muslim, a brick.

I do completely agree with you, though I think extremely low of Farage, this wasn't the way to get your point across and is only going to rally the forces behind him..

The only thing I will add, is in recent years the murdered MP, Jo Cox, was attacked by a far-right activist. The recent murder attempt on another female MP was planned by a far-right activist.

There have been many times where pork products have been hurled into places of worship and at people, by those who feel they shouldn't be allowed in this country.

So trying to ask what's acceptable next, when referencing Jo Cox seems a little Naive to the growing feeling in this country that has been behind acts like the ones you mentioned for years.

(Disclaimer: I am not saying that liberals shit don't stink. Just that in recent years, their crimes have not been as obvious or as many.)

  2. Heat is your problem, you need to start a good fire with really dry wood to start, get a proper fire going and the heat will take care of the rest, just keep feeding it with the garden foliage.

    This!

You need to get it going first and some heat in the fire!

it takes ages for the wood to dry out properly around a year!

    :stupid:

Look I'm all for big fires and big booms, but this sort of thing is more hassle than it's worth.

In fact, recently Saddlebags did a massive cut back of our Garden (recently moved into a rental, where the garden had been left to go wild) and he's been throwing as much as he can into the green bin each week but also at the weekend bought:

    large-bag-of-sand-for-convenient-bulk-delivery-to-a-building-site-DWMP3A.jpg

To which he hauled the main amount of it and took it to the local tip. :thumb:

No irritated neighbors, no fire burning for days on end, no fire department call outs, no burnt hole in the middle of the grass...

If you don't have a car, just buy a mate a pack of beers for the afternoon.

Don't get me wrong, I'm def a pyrohead, but this is more effort than it's worth :P

  3. I'll get you a g&t then....can't break with tradition

Hah, I think it's about the only downside to my name, people assuming I like that damned drink!

I'd much rather a vodbull, fruit cider or tequila if people really want to go straight for the spirits.

Even in my working life I'm Gin, though on CV and LinkedIn I tend to put Ginny just it's not such a shock for those who aren't used to unconventional names.

  4. I like you much more after I met you Westbeef and realised what a sweet heart you are.

I'm not a huge fan of the false macho bollocks that some lads have (which I had wrongly assumed from your user name).

I'm from the west side and full of beef.

I genuinely thought you were a proper footy mad, Gym addict from your username until I first met you :D

So I'm guessing you just like gin?

Hah! :D Actually can't stand the stuff... Or more so I think I hate Tonic, but that's the drink everyone buys me when they first meet me!

I'm a complete sweet tooth, so the dry bitterness of that drink is pretty Yack. :?

(By association my best mate was called Tonic by a few people as they always saw us together. )

  5. We have the units that Stu linked and really like them.

For Jays brother we bought the next set up and went for the PackTalks instead, which I think Jay and I will upgrade to as well in time.

    Hope this helps.

    Those are the packtalk :thumb:

Oh sweet! Sorry thought you had the Gx9s.

  6. Glad you're ok and worked the problem out quickly!

Always horrifying when you get into a sticky situation and your bike doesn't respond as you expected it to.

PS: as a guy who is coming from always running supersport tires, sport touring tires comparatively suck ass to mount / demount. If you are planning to do them, a third spoon and rim guard along with a buddy to help out (or a tire machine) is pretty much mandatory.

I had a friend once who was INSISTENT that he could change the tyre on his bike himself and didn't need a garage tyre machine.

6 hours and multiple trips to halfords later, with a shredded tyre and bashed up wheel hub, he relented in letting the garage do the change.

It took them max 10 mins.

  7. No we don't yet but we saw a Sena in the shop the other day and I'm pretty sure we'll go down that road. They seem to have pretty decent reviews although I've not looked into it much to be fair.

I know there'll likely be discussions threads on this topic somewhere on here and I'll get around to checking them out for sure before I buy.

Are you asking from experience of having used? If yes, any advice would be appreciated.

So I rode for about 8 years I think before my partner bought us a set of comms and I wouldn't go back to not having them now.

Since then, we brought his brother a headset too, as he's my resident pillion, and he say's its made a massive difference to him.

He's not getting half so bored on the back of the bike, he feels much more included in whats happening as he can hear us talking about everything going on around us and chat away back to us about random crap.

We have the units that Stu linked and really like them.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Thanks for the suggestions and inevitable piss taking.

There's no way she'll ever get on a bike other than as pillion so CBT is out of the question, so it's a case of accepting what we've got and enjoy it for what it is, and that'll do just fine.

She's never complained about the lack of view, we were just considering options to make it better.

Have you got comms between the helmets?

  9. There's a reason writers have haunted eyes and always seem like they need a hug. Give everyone a break.

This did make me bark with laughter; have a few creative friends who have this look.

... It's about the approach changing in the third act. That's the sort of thing an audience can feel happening, even if they can't put their finger on exactly why.

    ...

By placing so much emphasis on the ending, the showrunners changed the nature of the story they were telling, meaning the original story and the original characters aren't the ones getting an ending.

    Their substitutes are.

I saw someone sum it up as "The characters used to drive the plot, now the plot drives the characters."

Good article Hoggs, sums it up well.

  10. I can't see the point in buying a bike to restrict it, surely it makes more sense to buy a bike up to the limit, then move it on, once you have got your full A licence

Most of lads I knew that wanted to do an A2 then "limit" it, only did enough to have the paper to say it was limited, then took it off again.

So they could ride a bike that's power exceeded their license but if the coppers pulled them over they could claim it was limited.

  11. Arwen You summed up my thoughts pretty well.

Also learningtofly, I am really happy to hear that there are people that are loving this series. I am genuinely glad that there are people that can see this final season as the closing statement that the show deserved and I'm gutted to not be one of them.

If when the bells range she had flown to the keep and burned the hell out of Cersei that is fair enough. However systematically burning the entirety of Kings Landing killing hundreds of thousands doesn't sit right. Her entire story is freeing people, wanting to avoid the madness of her ancestors, wanting to rule (I assume) living people. She went from a 3 to an 11 on the madness scale and it's too much. I get they have to make her proper nutjob so Jon realises he has to kill her but other than her looking a bit tired at Dragonstone there isn't enough of an arc.

Agree here too, and as I said before the writers done f**ked up.

Now, I could fully understand Dany cracking if:

She had come to Westeros with her army, her loyal followers and her dragons.

Her original plan being to land at Dorne and start a march up the 7 Kingdoms, gaining the alliance of the important houses and more importantly the people of the land on her way :) ; much like she'd done in the slavers lands.

However, against her better judgement she rushes North to help and is met by the North men; hostile, cold, blunt and completely ungrateful for her assistance.

Her Dothraki and Unsullied are seen as foreign, barbaric, other and for the people she's trying to win the love of, they represent everything they don't want. The North have had 5 years of constantly being beaten by the lands they know, never mind the lands they don't.

They don't trust her, her people and especially not the big f**k off dragons she brings.

She's a stranger, a foreigner and she demands respect?

Nah. That's not the Norths style. :|

After she helps in the long fight against the cold winds (which I assume in the books would last a lot longer than one night  ) her force is diminished:

    - The unsullied, the boy slaves who had to murder their own puppies, who had to kill a babe in arms that she freed from their torturous life and came to love her as a Mother because of it, have been butchered on the field. They trusted her and she feels she let them down.

    - The Dothraki who only follow the strongest of men have chosen to follow her, the strongest of all mankind (in their eyes) and believe in her strength so much that they cross the poison water. They go against everything they know, only to be taken to a land colder than they ever could image and watch their warrior queen get shunned by men. She's lost their pride, their fierce devotion and she again has let them down.

    - Finally one of her true children, her Dragon is not only slain by the army of the dead but then raised to fight against her.

This one was of the biggest failings in the show in my opinion, not showing how emotionally devastating it would be for her to have to kill her own child. :(

So the battles over and everyone is celebrating while she mourns the loss of so much. He armies are heavily diminished, those that remain have their own pains (emotional and physical) and she can't heal them, they turn away from their Mother to tend to their own.

She's left to try to return to the Westerosi, who are Celebrating now, cheering with one another and telling bold stories of each others feats. But no one thanks her, no one acknowledges all she's lost to save them. All victories are accounted to their own and she can't join the merriment.

...The bitterness starts to churn in her stomach, mixed with the grief of losing a child in such an awful way.

All she cares about now is getting back to her original plan, taking the Iron Throne.

So when the North men tell her it's too soon, their armies are too damaged, she looks at her Dothraki and Unsillued who have already pulled themselves back into fighting order and are ready to follow her and think "They're just not willing to follow me, I need to show them strength like I did in the slavers lands".

So she marches. Rhaegal is damaged from the fight but she thinks that he's just not healing in the North, one they get to warmer lands and traveling each day, with fresh food, he'll heal quickly. :D

When they arrive at KL, she's told that the city has retreated, that the walls are heavily defended and that she would be better to hit the iron fleet with her dragons while the north men that chose to come with her attack the city along side her foot soldiers.

Only they didn't know the fleet had balistas too. While the troops storm the walls, her dragons lay waste to the fleet, he anger growing as the balista bolts whistle through the air around her.

Their no match for Dragons though, who destroy ship after ship.

In her victory, her pride and her battle-blood she revels in the force of the dragons and their power against those who appose her.

Then, Drogon nimbly avoids a final flurry of colts as she dives towards the remaining ships, Rheagals wing damage proves too great though and her bold battle strategy is again what causes her to have to watch one her children die; screaming as he falls amongst the remnants of the fleets.

Grief and rage consume her as Drogon obliterates the final ships and turns for the city.

Her armies have broken in but haven't managed to defeat all the wall defenses as they had meant to and so she won't take that risk again.

She destorys the walls with Drogon, the stones melting much like those of Harenhall...

She looks into the streets of the city to see the people running in fear, in terror of her.

Those she had come to save.

She also see's them fleeing to the Red Keep.

Where previously the cities occupants had risen up and overthrown their rulers all for her, these people flee in fear with hatred on their face; hatred for her.

They run TO Cersei, they run to the Red Keep which her Ancestors built, where now a usurper rules from and the people, HER people, instead run TO the usurper.

And so she flies for the keep, determined to burn it to the damn ground if she has to. She will destroy the old rule of this city, these lands and build her own keep anew from the ashes.

They'll see then that she is the true queen, then she will show them her mercy and her love, only then will she be free from the past.

From Fire and Blood, she will have her throne.

    ....

From the outside, the North men watch a dragon breath death around the walls of KL, they watch one woman unleash fury and fire on all those who appose her.

Once she's decimated the walls, the dragon flies for the keep, which their men are currently trying to siege and the dragon once again unleashes with it's terrible fury.

The keep is brought to ruin, a smouldering wreck. And sitting in the flames and decimation is a dragon with a queen of fury atop it.

This is everything they remember from the mad kings days, everything they fought against so many years ago and now, they feel they will likely have to fight again because they will never again follow a mad ruler. Not when they have their own King in the North.

  12. Ok so just to start by saying I think this was the worst episode yet; not because of the special effects or the acting.

Effectively I have the same feeling that I did coming out of Batman vs Superman.

The actors in it played the roles they were given amazingly well; it's just a shame those roles were so badly written.

Cleganebowl was amazing, really enjoyed that little scrap, i would have LOVED for the hound to get a happy ending, so shed a tear, loved his character, but his end was fitting and he took the big knob head with him. Cersei's talk to the palm as she stomped past them both made me lol

Yes, Hounds end was pretty perfect as his goal has always been to kill his brother at any cost. :( I think he knew it would likely end with him losing his life and that's what made his final moment with Arya so perfect; getting her to realise that there's more to life than revenge.

I hope this is how she goes back to Gendry. The hound helps her realise the horrible truth of war and she finds that actually, having someone who is always there for you is pretty wonderful.

Also Kyburns death was Brilliant! :D

Alot of people are also moaning about the way cersei went down as well. Ive always loved to hate her character and alwyas wanted her to be literally killed by jaime, but something about that scene with them both had me bawling and i really felt for them both haha. I didnt mind that it wasnt a great big showboating AH HA NOW I KILL YOU MOMENT, I liked the simplicity of it. Theres a few people griping over the prophecy regarding her death, though in theory, it was jaime who got her killed... i may be reaching a bit there, but i loved the whole scene.

To be fair, the prophecy stated that she would be killed by her younger brother and she was the first born of the twins. Just cos he died at the same time doesn't mean that he wasn't linked in with her death. (Prophecies are fucks like that... )

Also, I completely get his character going back to be with her, even in death HOWEVER if that was the way the writers were going, I really wish they hadn't shoehorned in the Brienne romance.

In the books he slowly realises he's actually repulsed by the person Cersei has become and starts to realise that Briene holds all the same values he does (while also finding that somehow he gets a boner round her!)

This half house, he abandons her after such a huge char arch, was shite.

And to the people saying dany cracked up to fast, come on, this has been alluded to for years. I just think season 8 has suffered from lack of direction more than anything due to having no source material to work from as discussed above.

Basically agree. I think in the books, with GRRM writing it will make horrible, inevitable sense that Dany cracks (if he chooses that ending). It will be like being washed down river by the strong current. You won't want it to happen but you realise that it's just the way it was always meant to be and it will Make Sense in the context of the world.

However, this version of it has been BUTCHERED. :| It was like being hit by a tsunami in the middle of a desert.

Varys death was f**king awful, her threatening Tyrion, Jon.... UGH just Jons cardboard personality especially this episode was so bad.

Basically the writers have well and truly f**ked this one up, I would assume mainly because without GRRM writing the books or being on set to advise (which he hasn't been for the last two series) the writers have floundered.

I am Dreading the Star Wars trilogy that these two have been given to write and direct.

  13. Would she get on the back of someone else's bike (that you trust) who has a sports/low bike?

If so, do that. She will then be super grateful that she has a tall person sheilding her from the wind! (I was when I rode pillion).

Alternatively, book her in for her CBT

    :stupid:

Arwens pretty much summed it up. You could look at altered seats but that's changing the ride a lot for both of you for something she might not enjoy.

Having a go on another bike is a good way for her to see better while also experiencing other ride types. But in all honesty, doing a CBT is a great idea.

It's a one day experience course, if she doesn't like it she never has to ride again but she might love it!

Explain to your wife that 99% of pillions can only see to the side of the rider. Very few are so tall that they can see over the top. If that does happen, I suspect balance would become an issue.

I'm 5ft3 and take pillions happily, but it does look pretty silly.

My seat is naturally built to give pillions a good view, but most of my pillions are taller than me anyway! :D

I also am grateful that I've always taken pillions since my 125cc as it's definitely a very different way of riding for someone short like me.

These days I normally have my partners brother on the back of mine and he's just under 6ft I think. He can see Clear over my head and loves it; gets all the perks of being on a bike without having to learn to ride himself

  14. But because the mother is mixed race, everyone jumps on the "racist" bandwaggon...

So it seems its only racist when one parent is mixed race, and it would be perfectly acceptable if both parents were white???

I love you Joe... But comments being offensive or not depending on a defining characteristic of the person their aimed at is Kind of the definition of prejudice.

I get your comment about we should all aim to be equal where these comments have no effect anymore. But we're not there at the moment and so they Do still have meaning.

There is no way anyone from my generation does not get the intent of a monkey used in that context, I even said to a mate yesterday who do you think will be the first stupid f**kwit to twitter a monkey reference to the new royal, well didn't have to wait to long.

    :stupid:

I am going to assume he was making a light hearted joke and all was well meaning. However, I agree with Bender, he must have been having a proper mind-fart to not think through the connotations.

The tabloids loved commenting on her heritage and background when they were first together / married. Of COURSE there was going to be sensitivity about the issue when they had their first child.

Basically I think that he didn't mean it with any harm, but he's been sacked from the BBC twice before. This wasn't the sackable offense in it's own right but I reckon it may have been the straw the broke the camels back for his bosses.

If Farage is being dug out how is Corbyn the Antisemite and his racist side kick Diane Abbot still in thier jobs .

You know what Six, I actually agree with you! They should all be thrown out of politics and not allowed to run for political positions again.

Corbyns decimated the Labour party with Diane Abbot as his willing henchman and Farage is a con-artist who just wants his cushy MEP job back now that he's at risk of losing his income for doing f**k all.

  15. @Gin absolutely agree with every point youve made there, it does feel rushed despite making us wait two years, i dont know if any of you watch anime, but i resd something that sunmed it up quite well on regards to the tv story finishing before the books as full metal alchemist struggled with this too. It was completed before the manga was, then when the manga was complete and they had full material tonwork off, full metal alchemist: brotherhood was then released and it was superior in many ways

    Yeah, really good comparison!

Even with the main long running shows they take breaks of have a filler story line. It's so weird that the writers seem to just want to get the show over with now...

I know that GRRM stepped back from consulting / assisted writing on the show a while back now and I'm sure that's what we're all feeling now. Just that Lack of what made GoT so different to any other fantasy show out there. :(

If I thought he was likely to bring out the next book (or two...) any time soon then I'd just think "Pfft, fine, the series is struggling, but we'll still get to know the proper tale one day" but honestly I wouldn't bet against him dying before the damn things are finished. :crybaby:

Though.... I also hope he doesn't do what JKR did at the end of the HP series and just rush the final book, tying together random plot points just to get it over with.

  16. Much as I tend to agree with the above if a motorist has used their vehicle in an aggressive or threatening manner there's nothing to lose reporting it to the police.

To be fair unless you've got some form of evidence or witnesses there's little they can do. But if they receive multiple complaints about the same person it can affect future decisions.

    :stupid:

Advice from a mate who's a copper is to call the non-emergency number (101), give the licence plate number, time and place and a little detail and it will get logged against the vehicle.

As MB has said, this will be used in future interactions with this vehicle and they might do an insurance / tax check.

Most of the times if someones a dick driver, it's not a one time event and if the police get one call about a car and then see that same car out and about, they have more reason to keep and eye on them until they f**k up.

Also, don't try and punch wing mirrors off, or at least not on the posher cars. Had a mate who practically smashed his fist to pieces trying it  Also, if that car then choose to chase you down, it's far less harm to that driver to smack your bike off the road than it's going to be for you.

  17. For anyone who has read the books: At the red wedding when the Hound hits Arya with his axe. I threw the book down in disgust and didn't touch it again for at least 2 weeks. During which time I was an emotional, bad tempered wreck. Until my brother messaged me to say that Arya was not dead.

I then picked the book up and continued reading.

Massive fan of the books and also have then as Audiobooks (happy to share to anyone who want's them).

I know the feeling you're talking about well!

I think when something like that happens in the books, you're bloody gutted but you get the feeling that it was fair somehow. GRRM always writes with events happening for a reason, there's always a lead up (however subtle) and consequences to actions (even if they manage to avoid them).

This writing though actually leaves me with a much worse feeling because it's just hollow... :?

    - When Bran got chucked from the tower, you knew it was because he'd extended his luck one too many times, but Not because he himself failed as a climber.

    - When Arya got smacked upside the head and was stopped from reuniting with her family after such a long lead up, you think it's because the hound wants to protect his own hide from being killed, then you find out he just wanted to save her from herself.

    - When Ygritte was shot and Jon had to find her bleeding to death, you knew they both had to end up against one another.

    - Even when Jon was killed, you could feel the tension in the NW building for a good book before it happened.

Though GRRM surprises the reader, it's still always plausible.

Eurons cloaked fleet which seems to warp around the coast of the 7 kingdoms to defeat any ships Dany tries to attack with. :|

As I've mentioned already, the apparent perfect aim with those Balista, except when they need Drogon to survive for reasons.

This writing isn't clever, it isn't subtle, it's doesn't feel like a natural evolving world like GRRMs does. :(

Ive started to dislike dany since she ousted jorah when she learned of his original intentions to betray her, despite the fact he had proven himself over and over again. Her slow descent into madness was subtle to begin with but now its too in your face and they could have gone about it better as it being a bit of a slow burner, for me, was working, she was becoming fixated even back then.

This sums it up well, the transition from the source material and when GRRM was still on set giving advice, to now where the writers of the show have free reign. They've reduced complex characters to one or two base emotions to make it clear where the story needs to go.

Also, like the theory about Ghost, I know I couldn't say good bye to a pet I loved and a final cuddle would make it far harder. :crybaby:

The final thing I don't get is that GoT is HUGE money. I don't get why they're feeling the need to rush this last season out and be done with it. They could have easily had this whole season be about the battle with the Night King and his army, building up the tension for one more season which goes back to Kings Landing and Cersie etc.

Some people may have felt that was dragging it out for the money, but I think it would have been far better than this rushed ending.

Sorry for the looong rant. Just so gutted that a franchise I like this much is dropping in quality, when it was known for it's awesome story writing.

  18. This is a thread I should not have started to read through :crybaby:

I am now happier in my choice to have both mine as 90% house cats with roam of the back garden in good weather.

  19. Did anyone else catch the starbucks cup on the table next to Daenerys?

I did miss this at the time but saw after on Reddit :D

Completely agree with you about this bit. If they could hit one dragon 3 times they would of realistically tried to hit them both.

I genuinely thought it was a dream sequence because it was So sudden, So out of place and So unfeasible!

It wasn't even that it was a surprise to the audience. Neds death was a surprise but at least there'd had been a narrative before hand which put it into context.

    This was just:

    - War meeting before they march out.

    - Conversation of this potentially being a bad idea for various reasons.

    - Ships on the ocean (so apparently they left? How's the other army doing? No travel time or context?)

    - Dragons in the sky and oh look there's ruddy great bolts pelting at them!

It was so... Empty. It was like they warped to Kings Landing. I felt like I'd fallen asleep and seriously missed something.

This isn't even wondering how the F they managed to not only find Missande in the ocean (She's barely had contact with the Kings Landing folk, how the hell did they know who to fish out of the sea?) but then capture her while deciding to leave the rest of her army to wash up on the shore?

Then why bother the whole Hostage BS with how that ended. Come on Cersei you have Dany and her whole force (like 100 men) standing outside your gates, just mow them down! Why do the dramatics with Missande?

Also you have all these Balistas made but decide in that moment of mercy not to take out the last dragon while you have Dany and her forces decimated at your feet?

It just felt like the writers know how they want the character arcs to end, they know how they want the story to wrap up but can't work out how to actually get it to happen organically and so just bash it with a mallet till it takes shape.

Also, are you kidding me that we didn't get to see Arya and Sansas reaction to Jons parentage!

Last note. He didn't say good bye to Ghost. No pets, nothing. The Monster  That damned wolf lost an ear for you!
