Hello
I've just been informed my Sprint needs a new headlight unit, at the rather princely cost of £283.33 + VAT. (From triumph)
Can anyone advise where i might be able to find a cheaper one, other than eBay?
Welcome to the wonderful world of Triumph ownership - apparently only accessible to those with a AMEX card with no limit. £££££
Well yes exactly
I've found a used one on eBay for £112, might go for that.

Can I come work for you? It sounds like it would be bloody brilliant.
When can you start? You'll have to pass a rigorous selection process first though, which entails us offering you a cup of tea and us weeding out anyone who asks for Early Grey, or any similar poncy southern muck.
I need to give a months notice and I bloody hate earl grey, but I do still think loose leaf is better than a bag. I'm also willing to get a Jack Russell and watch it kill rats.
Ah but I already have a Jack Russell, and can happily drink PG Tips MarkW When do I start?

I agree with Mike and Stu, go for a DAS course, training schools will offer a package where you have a number of lessons so you can get used to the bigger bike whilst learning the skills for the tests.

no I use myrouteapp and my friend has the same satnav but updated and he showed me how you can change the waypoints on his, looked at mine and went you need to update it!
Learn to use Basecamp for routes its alien to other programs and takes some learning but the results are worth it!
You can just add way points and stops as you go along!
The only thing I have found is that garmin doesn't have all points of interest like Google maps does which is probably what myrouteapp uses!
Must admit I've found basecamp a pain to use, although the YouTube videos you recommended were useful.
It's not intuitive at all!

The wording is suitably vague, perhaps they'll get away with just a hand massage?

Many happy returns Bob

I'd just like to chime in and say I bought this:
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/279242
Just before the rally, easily fit my 2-man tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, toiletries and clothes in with plenty of room to spare. Attached it to the pillion seat with bungies in minutes. Survived heavy rain on my way home, waterproof as advertised
And only £10!

Great to see everyone and meet new people too
Wish I had been able to stay for Saturday evening, looks like you all had a memorable night!

When will people learn.. never complain how tired you are! Everyone piles in with how much more tired and how much earlier they get up than you.. and how getting up at 3.30 am is somehow a good thing.
Especially do not complain in front of parents, because they will soon let you know that as a person without children you have no concept of true exhaustion (which I'm inclined to believe seeing how quickly it seems to age people!)
I think after the weather it's the nation's favourite topic of conversation
Parents and pet owners.
I go to bed 1am, 2am the dog wakes me up needing to go outside. 3am the baby is awake so I relocate to the spare room. 4am the cat decides he wants feeding. 5:15 my alarm goes off. That sequence of events happens to me on a regular basis.
The baby I can understand, but the pets.. lock them out of your room

I've booked a pitch
Will have to leave Saturday night unfortunately (but at least I don't have to bring fancy dress..)

I noticed my triumph sprint st dripping in exactly that way after it had been stood in the direct sun for several hours, assumed it was evaporating fuel recondensing, as Stu said

I've had this problem too I think Westbeef
Why is it seemingly such a problem with motorbikes? Cars don't seem to have the same issues.. I mean I know they have significantly larger batteries but there's more to it than that surely?

I thought this was a thread about football, not this bizarre 'handegg' business?
-
No.
I've done a few easy bits like changing the end can on my hornet (although getting the link pipe off was a huge pain!) and changing the clutch cable, but that's it really.
If that means I'm not a 'proper biker' in some peoples' eyes, so be it.
-
I had to look this up...
England got beaten by that massive footballing superpower: Belgium.
..who are ranked 3rd in the World!
Population of Belgium: 11million
Population of Uk: 65 million
Must be doing something wrong

Some people love giving money away.
Just doing my bit, supporting local businesses
I really don't have the time to learn how to do it, and If I ever want to ride my bike rather than have it lying around in pieces for most of the year then a garage is the only option. Albeit an expensive one!
That being said my buying history is pretty awful so have made a rod for my own back there.

Clutch slip or drag can be a problem on these bikes.......but replacing the clutch plates is a doddle......
I think what you think of as a doddle may be slightly different to my idea of a doddle, changing clutch plates sounds more like 'nightmarish oily disaster with lots of cursing'
megawatt Thanks, very kind offer, I have arranged for the local shop to fit a new clutch and headstock bearings.. supposed to be going on a ride out on Sunday so I hope that can do it this Saturday.

Stu!

If the revs increase and your speed doesn't, then your clutch is slipping.
but reading previous post
"the engine note changes and though the speed continues to rise the revs seem to pause around this spot,"
would suggest its not clutch slip as speed increases
but then reading the secondary post would give impression of clutch slip
Have you just bought bike and wonder if previous had aftermarket exhsust on and removed and not remapped to standard exhaust
Yes sorry I have been slightly contradictory.
But from what yourself and others have said, with the revs 'jumping' from higher in the band as I'm accelerating and going up through the gears, clutch slipping sounds highly likely
I guess I should have learned after my first two bikes that a 'cheap deal' from a private seller is likely to be a false economy
-
Thanks for the replies
Yes it is the stock exhaust, I can't be certain about the headers but I guess they are probably stock if the exhaust is?
Today I was travelling quite quickly in 6th gear, rolled on the throttle some more and the revs 'jumped' from 7 - 9k almost instantaneously.. that can't be right, can it!?
-
Me again
I've found that when accelerating hard in gears 4-6 there seems be a strange 'flat spot' around 6 - 7k rpm, the engine note changes and though the speed continues to rise the revs seem to pause around this spot, almost like hitting a limiter, and even fall back slightly (e.g. 7k down to 6.5k) whilst I'm still hard on the throttle, then continue on upwards.
Is anyone able to shed any light on this, maybe Tango or NeilM ?
I'm not 100% there's actually a problem, maybe I'm just not used to a triple?
Swapping my F700GS for something lighter?

How about an MT-07?
Wet weight of 179kg, which I believe is significantly lighter than your bike?
Everyone raves about its handling and engine, and I presume you could have it lowered too.
