Cadwell Park Track Day 13th + 14th of February 2010
chris128 replied to chris128's topic in Racing and Track Days
Isnt it bloody miles away though, in Wales?? Unless I have a track bike and a trailer by then then I doubt I'll be going as I dont fancy riding my bike all the way there (specially with no GPS) -
Cadwell Park Track Day 13th + 14th of February 2010

Yeah I just spoke to the guy at NoLimits and he said that the evening sessions run from 5:30 to 8:00 PM with just 2 groups (slow/fast). So will probably give these a go considering they are only £40. They dont start doing them until summer though obviously. -
I dont think a lot of them are full blown race bikes as a lot of them on the website just say "mostly standard" or "standard engine" etc but I'll make sure I check before I buy anything. I've also realised that I dont want to spend that much money on my first track bike as its pretty likely I'm gonna bin it isnt it... so I think £2000 max should be my budget Not sure what to do about a trailer though as we really do not have anywhere to put one in our garage/driveway (already 3 cars and 1 bike sharing it). Might have to look at hiring one like you suggested

Cadwell park double header fri 12th sat 13th March No Limits
chris128 replied to a topic in Racing and Track Days
Just booked the one on Friday 12th March couldn't bring myself to add the Saturday as well as it was already £170 in total as I booked those two dates in February at the same time. Unless I improve massively on those 2 days in Feb then I'll be in the novice group so probs wont see you on the track but I'll have to come meet up with you at some point -
Cadwell Park Track Day 13th + 14th of February 2010
chris128 replied to chris128's topic in Racing and Track Days
lol ah well its only a few days later I noticed they also have "evening" sessions at cadwell in the summer, I wonder what time they start and finish as I might be able to get there after work... they are real cheap though so I assume you dont get that much time on track. Still cant decide whether or not to book the Saturday in March as well as the Friday! I asked them if there was any chance of a discount if I bought both together but unfortunately not -
Well the guy from UK Track Bikes got back to me today, he says they don't have either of the GSXRs on the website for sale any more but they are getting a race prep'd 04 CBR600 RR in within the next couple of days that they will sell for about £2600 - I think it will be sold before I can get that kind of money together though, they said most of their track ready bikes don't even make it onto the website because they get sold so quickly. Also said they are preparing a Kawasaki ZX6 at the mo as well but for some reason I don't fancy a Kawasaki for a race bike. Anyway, sounds like whenever I have the cash they will probably have something to suit me or at least have something coming in fairly soon

Cadwell Park Track Day 13th + 14th of February 2010
chris128 replied to chris128's topic in Racing and Track Days
BOOKED! Both days. Better not rain on both of em or I'll be gutted. -
Yeah I know what you mean, but I really like putting together little videos and enjoy general video production/editing so I'd rather have good quality footage to work with. Even so, I cant justify spending £300 on a GoPro HD so I'm gonna just go for the Contour HD as it will still be a lot better than my current camera
-
oo yeah that does look good actually, £25 a day is a lot better than several hundred for a trailer that I would rarely use and have no where to keep OK, sent them an email asking how much the GSXR is and also how reliably I would be able to hire a trailer (i.e. is it likely that someone else might hire it if there's only one and then me not be able to get it) so will see what they come back with. Thanks for all the links Phil, you've been very helpful
-
lol yeah but I dont want to buy a massive trailer like that (or van, whatever it is), I'd rather just get a single bike trailer and take whatever I need in my car. But yeah I can see your point, a road bike probably wouldnt last me long and plus it would be more expensive to buy and then there's insurance and tax etc. I assume you dont have to tax a race bike right?
-
hmm that is one thing I hadnt considered actually, just buying another road legal bike but using it only on the track... that would certainly make it a lot easier and cheaper to get to the track and back.
-
not a chance in hell mate....the more you do the more you want to do haha is that why you have got like 19 lined up for the next couple of months
-
oh yeah, never knew there was anywhere that near. Just had a look at the website though and they havent got any 600 sports bikes for sale
-
Yeah that last one does look good, I'm tempted to put a bid on it now haha but I think I had better do a couple more track days before I go splashing out as you never know I might decide its not for me or get bored of it after I've done a few (not likely though eh!).
-
I like the look of the 2007 Suzuki GSXR 600 more It seems mad that I could get a bike for the track that is way newer and nicer than my normal road bike but costs pretty much the same to buy...
-
thanks for the info, going to look on the forums you mentioned If I can get one in good working order for around £1400 then I might not even need to sell my car, just save up for a couple of months... but I'm guessing there is more than just the cost of the bike to think about - what else would I need to buy other than a trailer or is that pretty much it? Thanks Chris

Cadwell Park Track Day 13th + 14th of February 2010
chris128 replied to chris128's topic in Racing and Track Days
oh yeah it is isnt it... I split up with my girlfriend last weekend so things like remembering valentines day are automatically erased from my memory I might just go and do the saturday anyway just for the sake of a bit more experience on the track seen as its quite cheap. If anyone else fancies it then let me know and we can meet up -
Cadwell Park Track Day 13th + 14th of February 2010
chris128 posted a topic in Racing and Track Days
Anyone fancy doing either (or both) of these track days at Cadwell? Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of February. Only £59 for each day I'm not sure if I want to go as there's a fairly high chance of the weather being pretty crap, but if a few others are going then I might book the saturday and if its nice weather see if I can cheekily book the next day there and then (cos if its anything like the track day I did this weekend then there wont be many people fighting for places on it...) Come on PhilGale, you know you want another one to add to your long list of track days -
Apologies to PhilGale as I just sent him a PM about this but then realised I may as well make a thread here for everyone to see as then I may get more answers from other people and it may benefit others in the future. Basically, I'm thinking of getting a bike just for the track rather than taking my own bike on there but first of all I need to know how much money I would need to spend to get a decent condition 600cc track/race bike. I've looked at a few websites but they mostly seem to be very out of date or have as little as 2 or 3 bikes for sale. I found this website though: http://www.uktrackbikes.com/bike_sales.asp which looks promising, so I've sent them an email just asking if a couple of the bikes are still for sale. So the questions I have are: 1. Does anyone know of any good places to look for used 600cc track bikes (apart from ebay) ? 2. Why are the bikes so cheap compared to their on-road counterparts? For example, a 2008 GSXR600 that only has 1400 miles on it is just £4200 on that website I linked to above - thats a lot cheaper than any road legal 2008 GSXR600 with similar mileage that I have seen. I would have thought if anything they would be more expensive if they have had bits added to them to make them perform better on the track. Cheers! Chris

Cadwell park double header fri 12th sat 13th March No Limits
chris128 replied to a topic in Racing and Track Days
Got the Friday booked off work so I'll book the Friday next week when I've been paid Still not sure about doing saturday too... in March its still pretty likely to rain and £105 is a lot to pay to ride around a track slowly whilst getting soaked (I'm not going to be going fast if its wet as I dont have any wet weather tyres and if I crash the bike I have no way of getting home - plus I've then got a wrecked bike!) -
Well youtube can handle HD footage now plus even if you dont upload it in HD, it is still much better quality (and I do like my quality) than the standard ones. I still cant decide which to go for though, the Contour HD's price tag and size/appearance is making me sway that way a bit more now. Guess it just depends what mood im in when it comes to pay day next week
-
I dont think there were any pictures, after all it was just a novice only day
-
Yeah I'm undecided whether to go for the Go Pro HD or go for the Contour HD - the Go Pro seems to get slightly better reviews but costs more and looks uglier n I think its a bit bigger/heavier EDIT: After looking at some more example videos on youtube and reading more reviews, I think the GoPro HD is the one to get... the audio quality is so much better than all of the competition (pretty much no wind noise at 70 mph!), and the video quality is the same or better. I just wish it wasnt so ugly and cheap looking! Its like they modelled it on the cheapest and worst digital camera they could find. I mean how stupid do you look with one stuck to your helmet: http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/images/Ahighslides/gopro-hd/gopro-hd-helmet-hero/HD-Helmetpp-big.jpg http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/images/Ahighslides/gopro-hd/gopro-hd-helmet-hero/hd-hero-on-helmet-big.jpg compared to the Contour HD or a normal bullet cam: http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/images/vari-bullet/varifocal-bullet.jpg
