CBR600 F3 1998 - amateur restoration
oldgrump replied to Hairsy's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
Nice one, They do have a habit of coming loose once the gaskets bed down, takes a few years, just done a Honda cb750f which had lost one of the nuts!! hence why I said they were long nuts, and like you just torqued them back up! -
Hi @Nick the wanderer, just phoned my insurance company, yep fully covered for pillions, and as for price £143.50 for 4 bikes 1997 VFR800, 2001 VFR800, 2004 SV1000, 1988 CBR400RR. Fully Com, and unlimited mileage, £50 excess on 2 oldest, £200 on newest, and full UK and European Breakdown Cover included. Used twice in last 2 years and cover is with AA. Went on a website years ago to compare insurances, cheapest quote was around £150 for 1 bike!!!!!
-
Sorry!!!! WTF is this, never heard of it! Been with the same insurance company for last 20+ years and never heard of Passenger insurance, always carried passengers in the last 53 years of riding never been asked for pillion insurance. Surely they don't ask when you buy Car insurance so why on a bike that's meant for 2 people are you being asked for this!! Would love to hear replies?? As I said never seen this!

CBR600 F3 1998 - amateur restoration
oldgrump replied to Hairsy's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
Hi @Hairsy, looking at photo's you look like you have the original nuts holding the exhaust on, and if they are then the nuts are long 15 - 20mm if i remember correctly and the studs are 8mm in the head, and 7mm on nut end!! I also mainly use this for exhaust studs instead of heat!! Europarts sell it. Good spray with this, it's a bit messy but done loads of studs with it. -
He was banned in 2019 on a doping charge for 18months, he appealed and ended up with 4 years, Australia was his first competitive race back. He was always a rider I liked even in his early days on the 125 and Moto2, he's a bit headstrong at times, and I'll never forgive him for that move when he took down his team mate Dovizioso on the last lap in 2016!!!!!! Haha bloody hell I'm feeling old when I look back at some of the race's!!
-
Well for a Guy who was banned for 4 years, The Maniac surely is my tip for the top, or a close second, and loved his tribute to the GO show. [never forget Antony's Gobert's 2000 race ] But as you said @Stu, Bulega seems fast, especially in the first race, and in the latter stages of third race. Will be a very interesting season.

Hi @Vic101, again depending on what model CBR, or year I believe Fowlers have the Left hand oil pipe in stock. But unless they are leaking, I wouldn't change them, Honda ones will only rust straight away, they always do!!!
-
Hi, @Vic101, according to Fowlers they have some in stock at £17.20 each, or if you have a Honda dealer near you just order from them. My local Honda dealer normally gets parts next day for me. And saves on postage!! Part no 15241MAT000
-
Hi @Bendeigid, Looks like you need to change the Fork oil at least, as for 15 weight, I personally think that's to high, I've never used 15 apart from Heavy Cruisers, for a road bike like the Gsx750f I would use 10 weight. My 97 VFR800 runs Hagon fork spring and 5 weight oil, always 2 up and fully loaded, change fork oil every 2 years which is about 20000 miles now. Rear shock is a Hagon, had that serviced by Hagon after 35000 miles when it lost its damping. Owned the bike for last 96000 miles never stripped forks down, only changed springs, so as far as I know still running original fork seals

Hi! AJS parts wanted urgently!
oldgrump replied to HondaCruiser's topic in For Sale and Wanted - Motorbike related
Hi @HondaCruiser, remove the bolt as far as the push rod to Master cylinder becomes free and then test the lever, if then it's still tight then look at master cylinder. As for identifying what Jap bike it comes from, good luck. I look after a AJS 250DD for a elderly guy, and yes spoke to AJS, and 2 distributor's could't find me the L/H switch gear!!! Suzuki Bandit was the same, Did think the Dragster but drum brakes on rear! Also if brake works and releases, when lever pull back try as @RideWithStyles, says and spray inside the master cylinder where the rod goes maybe just stiff. -

Hi @HondaCruiser, first think I would do is undo the Allen bolt and nut that goes through the centre of brake pedal/brake rod arm a bit, if you say brake works ok. Just to see if that has any effect, it sounds to me the bolt is to tight. As for spares for these Chinese bikes, not a hope normally. -
Hi @Bender, we've been about 4 times, in fact just booked to go out in October for 14 nights, we stay in Funchal. Can get very busy with the cruise liners during the day, but evenings are nice. Depends on what you want from a holiday, we call it our Fly & Flop after a hectic summer, we just go to relax.

My mate had a Tennis ball with a cloth tucked inside, on all his bikes. He just added water in the morning before we rode. I cut one last year to fix on the VFR, but never finished it!!! Maybe this year!!
